Double reduction policy

Abstract:Since the autumn of this year, the city has fully implemented the "double reduction" policy of the Ministry of Education, that is, to continue to standardize off-campus training (including online training and offline training), and effectively reduce the excessive homework burden and off-campus training burden of students in the compulsory education stage. The implementation of the policy has greatly improved the situation that the amount of homework of primary and secondary school students in the city has seriously exceeded the standard in the past ten years, but for the teachers and students who have long been accustomed to the "sea of questions tactics" and the parents who "hope that their sons will become dragons and their daughters will become phoenixes", they will inevitably worry about their children's achievements. This article will preliminarily ** In the context of "double reduction", as a junior high school English teacher, how to do a good job in junior high school English education and teaching, ensure the quality of education and teaching, and truly realize "reducing the burden without reducing the quality"!

Key words: "double minus"; Middle School English; Pedagogical.

First, the background of "double reduction".

As a front-line junior high school English teacher who has worked for 18 years, I know that the amount of homework in and out of class for primary and secondary school students in our city has seriously exceeded the standard in the past ten years. Students have to complete multiple homework assignments assigned by teachers, and some children will go to off-campus training institutions after school, weekends or winter and summer vacations because they are weak in a certain subject, especially there are many children who tutor mathematics and English!

In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, stop the utilitarian education of disciplines, promote the fairness of the overall environment, correct the current deformed extracurricular education, continue to standardize extracurricular training (including online training and offline training), effectively reduce the excessive homework burden and extracurricular training burden of students in the compulsory education stage (that is, the well-known "double reduction"), effectively improve the level of school education, and create a good health and quality education environment. Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Extracurricular Training for Students in the Compulsory Education Stage". The notice pointed out that it is necessary to resolutely and strictly govern and comprehensively regulate off-campus training. This autumn semester is the first semester for primary and secondary schools across the country to fully implement the relevant requirements of the "double reduction" policy. In terms of academics, the average time to complete written assignments in junior high school is not more than 90 minutes. Specifically, our school is detailed to the English subject, and the English homework is required to be no more than 20 minutes per day.

In this issue, "one teaching and one auxiliary" has really landed in primary and secondary schools in our district, and teachers and students can dig deep into the unified teaching resources, that is, teaching materials and supporting teaching courseware and synchronous workbooks. In this regard, as a junior high school English teacher who has been rooted in the front line for more than ten years, I very much agree. Because, finally waiting for the arrival of the general environment, students finally do not have to be busy with a variety of homework in various subjects every day, and teachers do not have to be tired of "involution", and truly return to the essence of education and teaching. Education is a conscious social activity with the goal of influencing people's physical and mental development; Teaching is a bilateral activity composed of teachers and students to transmit and master social experience, specifically, it is an activity in which teachers guide students to learn, in this activity, students master certain knowledge and skills, and at the same time obtain certain physical and mental development, and form certain ideological and moral character. This essence is a process of "teaching" and "learning", and it is also the starting point of comprehensive education.

Second, "reduce the burden without reducing the quality".

Perhaps, some students, parents or teachers will worry that there is less homework and the amount of training is not up to standard, which will affect the quality of education and teaching. In fact, this worry is completely unnecessary. At least, in terms of junior high school English subjects, I think that not only will it not affect the quality of English education and teaching, but it is also very promising to improve the quality. Next, please follow me to ** In the context of "double reduction", as a junior high school English teacher, how to do a good job in junior high school English education and teaching, ensure the quality of education and teaching, and truly realize "reducing the burden without reducing the quality".

1) "Kiss the teacher and believe in the way".

I believe that my colleagues who have been teachers have a deep understanding of "kissing their teachers and believing in their ways", and they all know that "interest is the best teacher", so I will not repeat it here.

2) Dig deep into the teaching materials.

It has been 21 years since I graduated from high school, but I still remember the phrase "textbooks are the best materials" taught to us by my high school history teacher. Because, as a former student, in the era of our study, there are no all kinds of overwhelming and varied teaching and auxiliary materials invading the school. The unified learning materials in each student's hands are really just a textbook and a workbook. Usually homework, at most, a little homework on the textbook is done in the homework book, plus occasionally individual teachers will engrave a little bit of oil wax on the roll. Compared to today's students, it was really much easier for us to read at that time. But at that time, our grades were not much worse than those of today's students.

English teachers are very clear about the meaning of the three words "memorize more points". As long as students read, memorize, and memorize the meaning of words and phrases in the textbook, and master the structure and usage of key sentence patterns, no matter how bad their grades are, they will not be bad. Unfortunately, in the past ten years of English education, students have no extra time to read, memorize, and memorize the words, phrases, sentence patterns, texts, etc. on the textbooks because they are busy with various homework in various subjects. Fortunately, now that the "double reduction" has finally come, the children finally do not have to cope with the heavy homework burden of various subjects, and can finally return to the textbooks and carefully digest the knowledge points and related notes in the textbooks.

Teachers can also better monitor children's memory of words and phrases in textbooks, as well as their memorization of texts. In my daily teaching, I use "individual-specific" and hierarchical requirements. Students with a good foundation and strong learning ability are required to memorize texts; Children with a relatively weak foundation memorize the meaning of words and phrases; I made a memorization registration form and pasted it on the poster board in the classroom, which listed the content that needs to be memorized in time, and according to the difficulty of the content to be memorized, the students who completed it registered the completion time in the corresponding column, and they could get different levels of extra points. This not only encourages students to learn from each other and promote each other, but also allows teachers to grasp the children's completion status at the first time. Dictation of words and phrases, I also require layers. Children with a good foundation are required to be at least 100 percent.

Nine. 10. 80% pass; For children with an average foundation, 60% of them will be considered to have passed; The children with the poorest foundation can complete the learning task appropriately (i.e., copy one line of each word and phrase, and the maximum number of ordinary words is 5-6 times, and the phrase is only about 3 times). The phrases in the textbook are scattered, and children with poor foundation are more likely to not even know which phrases to master, so the teachers of our lesson preparation group carefully select, edit the phrases that need to be mastered into electronic files, compile the serial numbers according to the topic and the page number of the textbook, and print them out to facilitate the children's targeted memory and recitation, which greatly reduces the burden on the children. Through the above methods, the children have a significantly better grasp of the words, phrases, sentence patterns and texts in the textbook, and the feedback is naturally very good.

3) Make good use of the class for 40 minutes.

Since the implementation of the "double reduction" in this issue, we can no longer engage in the "sea of questions tactic" as we have done in the past ten years, and teachers no longer have to be tired of catching up with the teaching progress because they have to comment on too many homework as before. This objectively leaves teachers with relatively sufficient class time. Whether teachers can manage the classroom well and whether they can make good use of the 40 minutes in the classroom directly affects the teaching effect.

Personally, I think that first of all, we must be strict and pay attention to students. It is often possible to see or hear that "so-and-so teacher only cares about himself and ignores the students' listening status, and the students below sleep or other behaviors that do not listen to the class", and the teaching effect can be imagined. In my class, the most basic requirement for students is not to allow students to sleep, to follow the teacher's rhythm, to read questions, to copy notes or answers, must be verbal and hands-on, that is, students must at least have something to do, at least in the classroom.

Secondly, prepare the lesson and make good use of the practice questions on the courseware in class. On the supporting teaching courseware, according to the different contents, there are corresponding exercises, or listening, or choice, or filling in the blanks or reading. I always ask students to complete it in time in class, and ask students to stand up and say their answers individually. This not only allows students to fully focus on the class, but also allows them to monitor their completion and mastery in the first place, which can be described as "killing two birds with one stone".

Finally, make good use of the summary part of the courseware. In the past, due to the need to comment on too much homework in class, and the fatigue of catching up with the teaching progress, this part was often overlooked. In this issue, in the summary part of each section of the courseware, I asked the whole class to read each word, phrase or sentence listed in the summary together, twice in English and again in Chinese (students themselves say it according to what they have learned and memorized). Some teachers may not think it makes much sense to do this, but from the situation of the students I have observed in this issue, they are happy to participate in this way, because they also have a desire to self-test. Even if the children do not have a good grasp of the lesson, they will participate in the class with other children, read and speak the meaning of Chinese with everyone, and actively learn.

4) Make good use of the matching workbook.

The questions in the workbook supporting the textbooks in our district are few and precise, and students with a good foundation can complete the homework of a section in a few minutes, and the extra time can be used to memorize words and memorize texts. Students with poor foundation can complete it in 10-20 minutes at most, which is fully in line with the "double reduction" policy. Students turn in in time after completion, the amount of homework is not large, and the teacher can correct and lecture in a timely manner, which is convenient for students to master.

5) Appropriately edit a small amount of information to supplement it.

Teachers in the lesson preparation group can use network resources to occasionally select and edit a small number of classic exercises, print them, and then use them for the whole grade to be used by students in a unified manner, as a topic and a supplement and summary of a unit.

The above is the teaching thinking and teaching practice made by me, as a front-line junior high school English teacher, in the context of "double reduction", this issue focuses on how to do a good job in junior high school English education and teaching, ensure the quality of education and teaching, and truly realize the "burden reduction without reducing quality". If there is anything inappropriate, please correct it!
