In 1931, in Liugou Village, Luoyang City, Henan Province, Qiao Zhiheng was born in a small village of less than 100 households. In this remote village, the ancestors have been simple farmers for generations. However, in the autumn of the year after the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, this peaceful small village experienced a bloody catastrophe.

Just after lunch, there was a sudden noise of people outside, and panicked people were running down the street, shouting, "The Japanese soldiers are coming, run!" Come on! Gunshots were heard in the distance, like the footsteps of death approaching. Qiao Zhiheng's family also hurriedly put down the dishes and chopsticks, joined the fleeing crowd, and hid in a broken cave at the bottom of the ditch in Liugou Village. The elderly, women, and children huddled together tightly, silent, with only indelible fear in their hearts.

After the devils entered the village, the bloody search began, and the innocent villagers were driven to the field, regardless of men, women, and children, and the machine-gun fire was like hell. "The blood is flowing like a river, and the people on the field are ***. Qiao Zhiheng recalled excitedly that the atrocities of the little devil made him feel deeply helpless. The devils who refused to give up searched for the remaining people along the east and north of the ditch, shot mercilessly, and set fire to the houses. In this tragedy, Qiao Zhiheng and the others who were hiding in the broken cave were lucky to escape, but this day left an indelible pain in his young heart.

With the sweep of the Japanese army, Qiao Zhiheng had to leave his hometown and defect to his uncle's house in Dongyang Village. His parents have died, and he has to face an unfamiliar environment at a young age. At his uncle's house, he worked with the poor children, going to the fields in the dark every morning and returning home in the evening. The oppression of the devils and the puppet army has tormented the common people in the village, and countless young people have become their victims.

Qiao Zhiheng heard that there was an Eighth Route Army, which specialized in fighting devils and traitors and protecting the people. For this army full of justice, he yearns and longs to join them. Every day, he asked his uncle and aunt: "Can this kind of soldier be found in **?" Hearing that the Eighth Route Army had reached the west and liberated the poor people there, Qiao Zhiheng and his friends decided to embark on a journey to find freedom.

At dusk one day, Qiao Zhiheng and a few friends left the village and ran westward. After a hard day's trek, they came to Potou Town. However, unexpectedly, in the town they met two men in civilian clothes with guns, who were stopped and asked, "What are you doing?" Where to go? "The two mysterious men took them to a remote village and handed them over to the head of the third detachment of the Taiyue guerrilla detachment.

The detachment commander did not immediately agree to Qiao Zhiheng's request, but let them live in the unit. During this time, Qiao Zhiheng and the detachment leader worked out a plan to expose the crimes of the Japanese puppet army in Dongyang Village. This action not only captured the enemy, but also allowed Qiao Zhiheng to gain the approval of the detachment leader. So, one day in March 1945, Qiao Zhiheng officially became a member of the Eighth Route Army.

With the development of the revolutionary situation, the third detachment of Taiyue guerrilla was reorganized into the Henan Jiyuan Independent Regiment, with Chen Guanghui becoming the head of the regiment and Qiao Zhiheng serving as an internal correspondent. In a mission to accept the surrender of the enemy's anti-artillery battalion in a certain place, Qiao Zhiheng showed extraordinary courage and resourcefulness. Falling into a disadvantageous situation, they stubbornly resisted, and finally captured more than 300 devils and puppet soldiers, and seized a large number of ** equipment.

This victory not only allowed Qiao Zhiheng to be recognized by the Eighth Route Army, but also gave him a deep understanding of the contest between justice and **. The children of this small village have witnessed the fall of their homeland, but they have shown perseverance in the face of difficult difficulties. His story is a small but great chapter in the era of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, recording the firm pursuit and struggle of an ordinary person in the great changes in history.
