Mari Petroleum has discovered natural gas in four different areas of Block 28 in Balochistan with cumulative reserves of 642 mmscfd。
Mali Oil***MPCL) is pleased to announce that it has discovered natural gas during its exploration work at the Maiwand X-28 ST-1 exploration well in Block 28 of Kohlu District, Balochistan, according to a statement released on Friday.
MPCL is the operator of Block 28 and has a 95% working interest, and OGDCL as a joint venture partner has a 5% carried work interest.
The well was drilled on June 12, 2023 and successfully drilled to 2,516 metres (measured depth) on November 12, 2023. Several promising areas were tested during drill pipe testing. The test results for the selected area were: Dughan & Rani Kot 414 mmscfd、pab & mughal kot 0.79 mmscfd、mughal kot sst 1.11 mmSCFD and Mughal Kot LST 038 mmscfd。
This discovery is significant for future exploration, as it reveals valuable information about the existing oil system in the region. MPCL also plans to accelerate exploration activities in the area to mature other drilling prospects. In addition, MPCL has shared mixed flow from the Dunghan and Ranikot formations to date, but the company will conduct a production logging tool (PLT) survey to determine the flow contribution of each formation. MPCL conducted PLT during drill pipe testing at the PAB and Mughal Kot formations; Surveys revealed that 79% of the above mixed stream came from the PAB formation, with the remainder coming from Mughal Kot.
The Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions (DGPC) appreciates MPCL's efforts to drill the first exploratory well in a highly safety-sensitive area where exploration activities have been at a standstill since the exploration licence was granted in 1991, the statement said.
