Point of view. The more knowledge you accumulate, the more likely you are to seize opportunities
After enduring hardship, I found that work is largely enjoyable
Interview. I wrote a bookOut of the Gobi: My Story of China and the United StatesLast year's publication in the United States was written in English, and this year's Chinese edition published in Hong Kong was rewritten by me, and the book mainly describes the farming of our generation in the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia.
My life in the Gobi Desert has nothing to do with the investment I am making now, my experience has taught me whether or not an opportunity can be grasped depends on whether a person is ready, and when the opportunity comes, you will not be able to seize the opportunity if you are not ready. What does it mean to be ready? It is to accumulate knowledge and read books, and the more knowledge you accumulate, the more likely you are to seize opportunities. Therefore, when we invest, we pay the most attention to understanding the industry, the market, and the investment object, that is to say, we must study and read, read various research reports, and so on.
Secondly, it is very hard to work in the Gobi Desert, spring sowing, autumn harvest, summer weeding, and in winter, I have to go to Wuliangsuhai to hunt reeds, the ice and snow are very hard, I can't eat enough, I can't wear warm clothes, and I work for more than ten hours a day, so no matter what work I do, I don't feel bitter anymore. There are times when it is hard to invest. I just published a new book, Money Games, in the U.S. in September. This book describes how I led the team to acquire the former largest bank in South Korea at the Shimbashi Investment Group, how I negotiated and acquired it, how I reversed and reformed the bank, and then gave it to another bank a few years later. At one point during that time, I didn't sleep for 43 hours. But it's still much easier than farming in the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia. After enduring hardship, we will find that the work we are doing now is actually to a large extent enjoyment, no matter how bitter it is.
