It is said that the novice thought that Yinguang was just scaring him, but he didn't expect to hear only a crackling ** ten in a row, and each sound was sturdy, without the slightest pretense to scare him. The little novice understood the power of **, gritted his teeth and endured not daring to squeak, until the punishment was over, Yin Guang said distressedly: "* Punishment, it is to hate iron and steel, in order to make you reform." If you have a grudge in your heart, I am willing to repay the ten boards of today's ten boards at any time, and from now on go our separate ways. You say, "Are you willing to accept the punishment, or will I pay back twenty boards?" ”

The little novice was really stubborn, wiping his tears and sobbing: "Woo woo......It's my own ......Naughty and willing to accept ......* Reprimand, unwilling to ......Expelled from the Zen monastery ......When it is called a child! Woo woo woo ......”

When Yin Guang heard this, tears also ran out of his eyes, and he choked up and said: "* hit you, but it actually hurts in your heart." As long as you listen to the teachings of the Zen Academy, you will never be punished in the future, and you will be asked to read and read, are you willing? ”

I do! Please ** teach me! The little novice hurriedly lay on the ground and begged for repentance.

Yin Guang picked him up, wiped away his tears, and let him sleep with him. Xiao Shami was still young, so he jumped and followed Yinguang to the dormitory. Mingwu burst into tears with excitement in his eyes and muttered, "This little monkey obediently wears the Seal Master's Tight Mantra, and I am relieved!" The abbot monk was also full of praise: "It seems that the Seal Light Master can really make the stubborn stone nod!" In this way, half a year has passed, and the little novice is inseparable from Yinguang, who is literate and recites, and others do not have to speak loudly to him, so he obediently obeys his orders.

In a snap of a finger, it was the early autumn and August of the twelfth year of Guangxu (1886 AD).

In March of this year, Yin Guang went to Wutai Mountain in Shanxi Province to worship, stayed for more than ten days, heard that the Qingliang Temple appeared Manjushri Bodhisattva holy relics, pilgrims and believers from near and far came to worship in an endless stream. He felt very surprised, since he was in Wutai Mountain, why not pay his respects? So he fasted and bathed, followed the guidance of the monastery master, respectfully prostrated in the Buddha hall, and begged Manjushri to show the holy miracles to enlighten one or two.

In the midst of the melodious sound of the bell, the Zhike Master pointed to the flickering candlelight in front of the Buddha statue and declared loudly in surprise: "Pious believers, look! Manjushri has appeared! Look at the lion under the Bodhisattva's seat and look at the five-colored auspicious clouds above the Bodhisattva's head! ”

In this exclamation, all the pilgrims hurriedly worshipped. Yin Guang peeked at the moment of the bow, and saw the candlelight swaying in front of him like a dream, vaguely showing the appearance ......of auspicious cloudsWhen I opened my eyes and looked closely, it was still flickering candlelight......He was secretly ashamed in his heart that he was still a mortal with the naked eye, and that he had no chance to see the Bodhisattva's holy miracles.

The melodious bell was mixed with the prayers of the monks in the temple, and the master instructed the pilgrims to stand up in prayer, and asked them with a smile and a smile if they had seen the Bodhisattva's apparition. Afraid that others would think they were not pious enough, the pilgrims rushed to say that they saw it, and they saw the Bodhisattva smiling at them! After that, they rushed to offer merit and leave happily. The Zhike Master knew that Yinguang had come to worship from Nanwutai, and said with a smile: "Your Nanwutai is in the same vein as my Qingliang Temple, and I think the master should see it more clearly!?" ”

Yinguang understood that this was the Zhike Master who wanted to show up and say the Dharma by himself, so as to improve the prestige of Qingliang Temple, and applauded unhurriedly: "Nanwutai ** Yinguang, there is a Buddha in your heart at all times, and there is a Buddha in front of you at all times!" ”

The guest master couldn't understand his deep meaning for a while, and was immediately overjoyed, and walked outside to the pilgrims who came in and proclaimed: "The ** Tao from Wutai in the southeast of Shaanxi is profound, and I clearly saw the Bodhisattva riding a lion to descend on Qingliang Temple, which shows that the more pious people are, the more clearly they can see!" When the pilgrims heard this, they cheered and saluted. Yin Guang saw it in his eyes, sighed secretly in his heart, and quietly left the ...... Qingliang Temple

In the past six months, he has been thinking hard: Wutai Mountain Zhike Master claimed that Manjushri Bodhisattva appeared, and those pilgrims also said in unison that they had seen the holy miracles, why did they not see the holy miracles of the Bodhisattva when they were so devout monks? One day, when I was reading the scriptures, I saw the sentence "the state is born from the heart", and it suddenly became clear: it turned out that all kinds of holy miracles in the world, including all kinds of auspicious things recorded in the history books, were all hallucinations and hallucinations that appeared because of the obsession of the person concerned; As for the unanimous voice of others, it is just the so-called "one dog barks and a hundred dogs bark". Nowadays, the country is in a difficult situation at home and abroad, the calamities have been unancient for many years, and some monasteries are in an embarrassing situation, and it is self-evident to claim holy miracles! Helplessly, the monks in the world are a family, and they can only understand it in their own hearts, but the mystery can be said but not said. So, he dispelled the idea of staying in Wutai Mountain to practice.

On the morning of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the guest master came to inform him that the abbot monk invited him to the guest hall to accompany and receive the Fashan Zen master who traveled to the south of Wutai in the north to exchange experiences and study the classics. After seeing each other, Zen Master Fashan felt bitterly that after the Eight-Nation Alliance burned the Old Summer Palace, the power of the Qing Dynasty was declining, and the livelihood of the common people was becoming more and more difficult, and many monasteries were also declining. Along the way, I saw that many monks had no intention of studying Buddhist scriptures, but they were keen to give the rich people a flame outlet, and to do things for the poor to eliminate disasters and make a living, which was really sad for Buddhism!

Yin Guang felt the same way, and couldn't help but think of the fact that Mount Wutai preached the holy miracles of Manjushri Bodhisattva, and he was not surprised by their actions. The abbot monk repeatedly praised Yinguang to the Fashan Zen master, saying that he was devout to study the Buddhist scriptures in many places, and he also studied the evolution and changes of the temple since the spread of Buddhism to the east. Zen Master Fashan was lamenting that many monks had no intention of studying Buddhist scriptures, but when he saw that he was so young, he was able to abandon his fame and dedicate himself to the Dharma and succeed in learning, and he couldn't help but be in awe: "Amitabha! Yinguang has a deep foundation in Confucianism and resolutely dedicates himself to Buddhism, which is really a blessing for Buddhism! Dare to ask the printer, what school of classics to study? ”

Yin Guang hurriedly bowed and saluted: "The Zen master praised it!" Buddhism is vast and boundless, ** self-esteem qualifications are dull and know very little, and it is located in the northwest corner, and has never had the opportunity to see the Buddhist scriptures, and I don't know anything about the schools in the Central Plains and the southeast coast, I am really ashamed! **When placing an order in Shuangxi Temple, I happened to see "Longshu Pure Land Text", and I was deeply respected. Later, when Zhuxi was ordained, ** eye disease attacked, day and night devoutly chanted Buddha and recited the Pure Land text, thanks to the blessing of the Buddha, the eye disease was actually cured without medicine. **So I was grateful and specialized in the Pure Land, but unfortunately my knowledge is still limited, so I asked the Zen master for guidance on the way out. ”

Zen Master Fashan admired his spiritual skills and modesty, and said that such a young monk is really rare nowadays! Hearing that he specialized in cultivating the Pure Land method, he said angrily: "Today's Buddhism, Zen and Pure have their own merits. As for the Pure Land sect, it is unanimously recognized that 'there is Putuo in the south and red snails in the north'. Among the two, the Zifu Temple of Hongluo Mountain in Beijing is the first Pure Land Dojo in China. Since Master Yinguang is interested in the Pure Land Sect, why not go to Hongluo Mountain Jingxie to practice? ”

It was really a reminder to the dreamer, Yinguang was overjoyed when he heard it, and immediately asked the Fashan Zen master for advice. Zen Master Fashan told him that the rule of Hongluo Mountain is to study in summer and winter, and now it is mid-autumn, and monks who are interested in the Pure Land in the world have rushed to Hongluo Mountain to study, which is the right time. Yin Guang hurriedly kowtowed and thanked him: "After learning, I thank the Zen master for his guidance, and I went to Hongluo Mountain to learn from the teacher!" ”

The next day, Yinguang packed up and said goodbye to the abbot monk and went to Hongluo Mountain in Beijing to study. The abbot monk was reluctant to give up and handed him ten taels of silver tickets for entanglement. Yin Guang repeatedly excused himself, and the abbot monk said sincerely: "You have discovered the inscription of the origin of the Zhiyuan, the incense of the Zen temple is prosperous, and the merit will increase, so you should be rewarded." Besides, Beijing is a place where rice beads are expensive, and there are many inconveniences without money around, so don't be stubborn. ”

Yinguang couldn't refuse, so he had to reluctantly accept it. When the little novice learned that ** was leaving, he cried and said, "*Don't go, okay?" When you're gone, who taught me to read and read the scriptures? ”

Yin Guang stroked the head of the little novice and said kindly: "Don't be sad, ** will go too." I'm leaving, as long as you listen to the teachings well, the ** people here will teach you. When I come back from my studies, I'll teach you to read the Bible, okay? ”

Yinguang left Nanwutai, crossed the Yellow River to the east to take Shanxi, crossed Henan and crossed Hebei, and rushed to Beijing non-stop. Along the way, the hand bowl to the kind and charitable people to make a vegetarian food, at night to take refuge in the monastery to place a single accommodation, endless wind, frost, rain and snow, but also not to say the many hardships of trekking through mountains and rivers, sometimes in order to rush to miss the village, the wind and food camping is commonplace. He kept in mind the teachings of the abbot monk, Beijing is a place where rice beads are expensive, even if he is hungry and cold, the ten taels of silver tickets are reluctant to take out and use a cent. Finally, on the fourteenth day, the wind and dust came to the long-awaited but completely unfamiliar Hongluo Mountain, and I couldn't help but have a lot of thoughts in my heart.

Hongluo Mountain, located in Huairou County, about 100 miles north of the capital, belongs to the remaining veins of Yanshan. Yin Guang remembered that it was recorded in the classics of the origin of the world's famous temples that during the Western Jin Dynasty, Buddha Tucheng came all the way from the Western Regions to the Central Plains to find the best feng shui treasure, and he tossed and turned for decades without results. One day, he followed the Hou Zhao lord Shi Le to go on the expedition, came to the foot of Yan Mountain to climb high and look, and saw a big mountain sitting north and facing south, the two peaks stand side by side to lead the mountains to extend, as if the Dapeng spread its wings to block the cold north wind, which is in line with the feng shui "Tibetan wind gathers qi" acupoint, and suddenly the heart is happy. He opened his eyes and observed carefully, and found that on the chest of the lower side of the west peak, there was a steamed bun-shaped hill that seemed to be a peak and not a peak, which was round, plump, big and not obvious, and five ridge veins were divided from the bottom of the hill, and the five ridge veins were slightly curved and extended to the foot of the mountain, which actually resembled the five fingers that were naturally vertical, and it was wonderful and rare that the five fingers were all stretched and full, and it seemed that the joints of the fingers were all visible one by one. Buddha Tucheng saw it clearly, and immediately dismounted and bowed to the ground. Shi Le was inexplicably surprised, and hurriedly asked him why. Buddha Tucheng said excitedly: "Back to the emperor, I have traveled thousands of miles for decades of hard searching, and today I finally found a feng shui treasure that can be offered to the Buddha!" Then he explained that when the Buddha Shakyamuni attained enlightenment, he had cast the "touchdown seal", and these five mountain veins were the "touchdown seal" seal that he was looking for. Shi Le heard the great joy and built a temple here, called "Daming Temple". Later, Tang Taizong Li Shimin ordered to settle the Heishui Zhai who migrated from the northeast here, and only then did he have the name of the county of "Huairou". In the future, although the imperial court changed hands, but the emperors of all dynasties have paid tribute to the monasteries of Hongluo Mountain, Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty once wrote the imperial pen "Protecting the State-owned Blessing Temple", and the name of Zifu Temple has been called until now. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, the twelfth patriarch of the Pure Land Sect, Master Jixing, preached here and created a dojo specializing in the Pure Land in the world. Today, I finally came to this dojo of the Chinese Pure Land Sect, how can I not be excited?

After Master Jixing established the Pure Land Dojo, he also had a far-sighted plan, using a large amount of merit donated by dignitaries and nobles to purchase thousands of acres of monks' fields, renting them to nearby poor farmers to farm, giving rice porridge to relief victims every famine year, and giving medicine to the poor who had no money to treat the poor, and those who had received favors naturally became devout believers, so the ashram was able to keep pace with Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea and became famous all over the world. For monks from all over the world who come to study and study the Pure Land, Zifukuji Temple is even more enthusiastically accepted. Zhike Shi learned that Yinguang came from Wutai in southwest Shaanxi, and he also heard about the deeds of his discovery of the inscription from the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty to the revival of the reputation of Nanwutai, and he was even more overjoyed, and personally led him into the guest hall to rest.

Yin Guang said sincerely: "After learning Yinguang, I am deeply grateful for the love of the guest teacher, and I will never dare to accept it in the guest hall, please know that the guest master will arrange for other monks to live." I came here to study my Pure Land scriptures, and I implore me to arrange errands without discrimination, so that I can feel at ease after studying. ”

The Zhike Master secretly admired in his heart: This monk from Shaanxi is very modest and understands the rules, and his day will be unusual! He followed the rules set by Master Jixing himself: "All monks who come to study from afar must arrange errands without discrimination", and let him temporarily hold the position of "incense lamp".

The duty of "incense lamp" is as simple as serving Tuas incense in Nanwutai, and you only need to get up in the morning and evening to add sesame oil to the oil lamp in the Buddhist hall. Zifu Temple has abundant land and materials, the lamps of the Buddha hall are the size of a sea bowl, and there are a lot of dignitaries and nobles who come to incense, and the shot is hundreds of thousands of meritorious money, and the sesame oil in the treasury is stored in more than a dozen large jars, and the clever and clever "incense lamp" is often finished once a day. Yinguang is not like this, he still gets up every morning to add sesame oil, adds it again in the evening, and concentrates on studying the Pure Land scriptures the rest of the time. Behind the scenes, some monks said that this monk from Shaanxi is really elm pimple, the scenery of Hongluo Mountain is beautiful, the level of Hongluo Lake in front is like a mirror, it is a good place for monks in the temple to enjoy and play after dinner, and there are more clever little monks to lead the way to pilgrims and get a few copper plates, but he seems not to eat the fireworks of the world, never disdain these, insist on asking for hardship! ......Yinguang listened, as if he was deaf, he turned a deaf ear, and added sesame oil on time.

At noon one day a year later, Yin Guang went out to buy a jar of sesame oil and came back, and happened to meet the great monk above, and hurriedly bowed down to inquire about it. The abbot was a little surprised, so he asked him, "Master Yinguang, is there not enough sesame oil in the treasury?" Even if it's not enough, it should be the responsibility of the warehouse, and you don't need to buy it? ”

Yin Guang hurriedly said: "The great monk has misunderstood. It is customary to study the scriptures at night, which is used to light the lamp and read the scriptures. ”

The abbot nodded in appreciation, and said casually: "The rules of our temple, but all monks who study the Pure Land at night can receive sesame oil to light the lamp." In addition to three meals a day, the subsidy is very small, so you don't have to buy it yourself! ”

Yin Guang thanked the abbot for his care, and replied thoughtfully: "When Yang Qi Fanghui Zen Master served as a supervisor, he liked to read scriptures at night, so he refused to use public lamp oil. Houxue did not dare to chase after the sages, in fact, he admired it very much. Later, his eyesight was not very good, and he used more oil than others, so he didn't dare to use public lamp oil. ”

The abbot sighed when he heard this, and at breakfast, he commended Yinguang's honest and self-disciplined behavior. Those monks from all over the world listened to this, and some people said behind their backs that he was grandiose, but more people respected him, believing that he was knowledgeable and sincere, and that it was rare that he was honest and self-disciplined, and unanimously elected him as "Liao Yuan".

In fact, "Liao Yuan" is specifically responsible for receiving monks from all over the world, and at the same time managing the treasury and daily necessities - as well as the reception and temple property management power, it belongs to one of the eight deacons of the temple, and it is also a position of respect.

However, Yin Guang resigned after working for a year, and was willing to serve as the "owner of the collection". What is a "collector"? To put it bluntly, he is the librarian of the temple, who is responsible for the management of the temple library and the registration of borrowing. In the eyes of many people and even pilgrims, this is a complete Qingshui Yamen, a thankless errand. Yinguang resigned from the good "Liao Yuan", but fell in love with the powerless "Tibetan master", which surprised all the monks in the monastery. The abbot and the great monk saw that he insisted on resigning, and he also asked for it.

After the handover of the position, the Zhike Master was still very puzzled by this, and quietly said to the abbot and the great monk: "Others want to be Liao Yuan and can't be it, but Yinguang Master insists on not doing it, I don't know what he thinks?" ”

The abbot and the great monk pondered for a long time, sighed and said: "Say something that is not afraid of your surprise, this is called 'the ambition of the bird's nest and bird'!" From the incident when he bought lamp oil to read the scriptures at night, the old man could see that he was ambitious, beyond the reach of ordinary monks. He resigned from Liao Yuan this time and chose the Tibetan master, which must have been to concentrate on studying Buddhist scriptures, so I have the heart to fulfill it. Lao Gon once went to his monk's room and saw him hanging a banner on the wall that read 'Stepwalker' and asked him what he meant. He said that he admired the grand event of Patriarch Huiyuan of the Jin Dynasty to create the Lotus Sect in the Shandong Forest Temple of Lushan, and vowed to inherit the career of Patriarch Huiyuan in Lushan, and was willing to go to the ends of the earth to refine the Pure Land, so he was named 'Successor of Luxing'. According to the old man's humble opinion, if time passes, this person will be full of experience and have a bright future. ”

Half a year later, the abbot went to the Tibetan Scripture Pavilion to inspect, and sure enough, he found that there were many Buddhist classics on the Yinguang table, such as "The Sutra of Stunned Strictness" and "Huayan Sutra", and he was reading a book of "Mida to Explain" sentence by sentence, and occasionally wrote something in a book, so he smiled and said: "The Yinguang master is so hard-working!" Many people in the temple have not read the scriptures yet, so what else do you want to write?

Yin Guang hurriedly put down his pen and beckoned the abbot to sit down, and said sincerely: "How dare you learn from Houxue!" This "Mida to Explain" is an important classic of my Pure Land, but the literature and science are too profound, and it is difficult for ordinary monks to understand, not to mention those laymen who are not literate enough to read and write? So I collected the classics, copied them one by one, and explained them one by one, so that it was easy for beginners to get started. ”

The abbot and the monk listened with great admiration, saying that for many years, the monks of the monastery have always swallowed dates according to the script, and no one thought that they would let the laity who are not literate understand it, which is really a great merit!

The two were talking, and suddenly came a middle-aged monk, claiming to be a famous temple seat, for many years deep understanding of the Buddhist classics for a long time to participate in Zen Buddhism, proudly said: "I have been studying for many years, and I believe that Zen Buddhism is the authentic Chinese Buddhism, I heard that Hongluo Mountain Zifu Temple is the world's first pure land dojo, specially came to ask for advice." ”

Yin Guang saw that the person who came looked arrogant, and called it "asking for advice", obviously prepared, the purpose was to deliberately belittle the Pure Land and raise Zen Buddhism, although he did not want to get involved in the dispute over the portal, but if he could not argue with him, he suffered humiliation and was a small matter, and the Pure Land would be discredited, so he hurriedly handed over the carefully copied "Mida Explanation" to ask him for advice.

The Zen Priest casually put aside the "Mida to Explain", smiled coldly and said: "I have read this "Mida to Explain" a long time ago, and what does it say: "Huayan" mysteries, "Fahua" secret essence, all Buddhas' hearts, Bodhisattvas and ten thousand lines of Sinan, are not out of this', it is simply to suppress other sects, specifically elevate the Pure Land, and delay all beings in the world. Unexpectedly, Master Lotus Yi became a high monk in vain, and he actually wrote such a solution and gave a talisman to the foolish man and the foolish woman! In the long run, the world's Su Su will go astray into the Pure Land, which is really to cut off the Buddha species, and the sin is monstrous! If you really want to repay the Buddha's kindness, you should destroy such a book, why copy it out, but encourage it to circulate! ”

Yin Guang saw that the more he spoke, the more angry he became, as if this book of "Mida to Explain" was his enemy who did not share the heavens, he was secretly surprised in his heart, and only after his heart calmed down did he slowly say: "The mage thinks that Master Lotus Yi has committed a heinous crime, but in fact, he has not yet found the root of his sin. In fact, the root is not in Master Lotus, but in Shakyamuni and Mida Bodhisattva, and in the classics of Huayan and Fahua. If you can declare their sins, maybe your words will be observed by the world, otherwise, it will be a foolish man who claims to be the emperor and betrays the laws of the court by making his own laws, and will incur a monstrous disaster of exterminating the clan in an instant! Your statement is really slandering the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and you should go to the hell of Abi and never be reborn! The 'Compassionate' that the Buddhas of the Three Worlds spoke of is just like you! ”

The Zen Zen Sect was so shocked that it took a long time before he said, "Amitabha, since you worship the Buddha with all your heart, why do you say that the sin lies with Shakyamuni and with Mida?" I also know that you are talking the opposite, and you just want to proclaim yourself a guardian of the Buddhist scriptures. Anyway, as long as you can outweigh me, you will naturally be convinced! ”

The Zen Theravada repeatedly refuted, but Yin Guang said that all of them were Buddhist classics, and he could also conclusively point out the fallacies quoted by Zen Buddhism, and affirm that they were deliberately fabricated apocryphal scriptures recognized by the Buddhist community during the period of the destruction of Buddhas by various generations, until he was speechless. The abbot monk only knows that Yinguang is immersed in studying Buddhist classics on weekdays, and he doesn't seem to be good at words, but he didn't expect that he has the upper hand at the beginning of his sharp words, and then, only to hear Yinguang quote scriptures and classics gushing endlessly, from the beginning of Buddhism from the Eastern Han Dynasty to China, it is said that Master Xuanzang has traveled thousands of miles from Tianzhu to retrieve the three Tibetan classics, and then to the Jin Dynasty Buddhism blossomed three branches, divided into Zen, pure, and dense three schools of evolution, in fact, ten thousand laws are the same way. At the end, he added: Tantra emphasizes tantric practice, and it is difficult for ordinary people to cultivate; Zen Buddhism pays attention to epiphany, and it is difficult for monks with low qualifications to have epiphany; Only the Pure Land is a door, advocating "three universal quilts, all the benefits and blunts", it is not a bad thing to become a talisman for fools and fools, which just proves that the Pure Land is the most suitable for all the world's devout Buddhas to believe in and practice, and can best meet the Buddha's purpose of "all beings can become Buddhas", and it is really worthy of "the Xuanmen beyond the sea of suffering, the shortcut to the Buddhahood of all beings"! —After some eloquent conversation, he pointed out sharply: "As a Zen Zen Medada, you should know that the Huayan Sutra is the king of all scriptures, why do you practice Buddhist scriptures every day, but you actually say slanderous words about Buddhist scriptures?" It is exactly what Confucianism said, "If you don't observe it, you don't know how to use it every day." I am bent on leaving the sea of suffering to survive in the Pure Land, but you are trapped in the sea of suffering and slandering "Huayan", the Tao is different and does not conspire, you go! ”

The Zen Zen Throne was full of shame and had to leave in despair. Before leaving, he respectfully looked at Yinguang Jishou: "The seat is very knowledgeable, and I suddenly opened it at the bottom of the mouth, and I knew that there was a sky outside the sky." After the mountain monk goes back, he should study the Pure Land classics well, and if he has a fate, he should come again to ask for advice! ”

Yin Guang saw that his attitude had changed, and he couldn't bear to embarrass him too much, so he hurriedly saluted him, praised him for his profound knowledge of Buddhism, and really increased his knowledge, but he shouldn't be too paranoid, and then said sincerely: With the profound knowledge of **, if you can break the view of the portal, you will definitely be able to magnify the Buddha's door, please think twice! The Zen Zen Buddha hesitated for a long time, and left with the "Mida to Explain" presented by Yinguang.

The abbot and the great monk saw it in his eyes and said to Yinguang with emotion: "Back then, Lin Wenxiang Gong Xu once said: 'The wall is high and hundred, and if there is no desire, it is strong; The sea is inclusive, and there is room for greatness', which is very appropriate for you to use on your Yinguang! It is really respectable that you are so young that you can integrate the Buddhist scriptures to such a profound level, so impress the Zen Throne, and improve the reputation of my Pure Land Sect! ”

The monks in the temple learned that the Zen master of the Yinguang Tongue War had won a complete victory, and they asked the abbot to let him explain the difficulties of the scriptures to everyone. Yin Guang hurriedly said that he knew that his knowledge was shallow, and he only wanted to study Buddhism deeply, so he resolutely refused.

Zhike Shi quietly suggested that Yinguang be promoted to the position of Yinguang, so that he could stay in Zifu Temple for a long time to strengthen his prestige. The abbot and the great monk pondered and said: "This person came to Hongluo Mountain thousands of miles away in order to study the Pure Land Buddhist scriptures devoutly, and he is not impressed by his duties. Now that three years have passed, if the old man is not bad, when he reads the monastery scriptures, he will go away and turn to other monasteries to visit the scriptures. Gathering and dispersing are all fate, as long as he can glorify the Pure Land, it is also the honor of my Zifu Temple! ”

The prophecy of the abbot of Zifu Temple is exactly right, Guangxu (in the spring of A.D., after Yinguang once again worshiped Wutai Mountain, he turned to Longquan Temple in Beijing and became a "Xingtang" monk who specializes in serving monks tea and meals. In the early winter of October, the wind and snow are howling, and the rural farmers are nesting in the house to survive the winter, Yinguang actually said goodbye to Longquan Temple again, and walked to the three eastern provinces with a bowl in hand.

Although the monks in Longquan Temple have not been in contact with him for a long time and their friendship is not deep, they still keep it again and again: "Master Yinguang, although our Buddhism has a rule of winter and summer learning, we still have to act according to the right time and place. Now that the snow is falling, it is thousands of miles away from the customs, and you are alone and have no one to take care of, why are you so anxious? It's still past winter, and I'll leave when the spring flowers bloom next year. ”

Yin Guang thanked them for their concern, and said resolutely: "The rules of Buddhism, Yin Guang dare not disobey them. If you wait until spring blooms, you will miss the opportunity. There are many good men and women in the world, although the wind and snow are big, I will stay along the way, and it will not take a month to arrive. "Say goodbye and walk into the snow.

However, he said that Yinguang went to the monasteries of the three eastern provinces to study until the early winter of the second year, and then returned to Beijing, and this time he stayed in Yuanguang Temple. Yuanguang Monastery is a small and obscure monastery in Beijing, and the monks in the temple are very enthusiastic about him. One day, a monk went for a walk with Yinguang to Xizhimen, and suddenly a young man came up to them and begged them: "* Give two money to buy steamed buns!" ”

Yin Guang saw that he was about fifteen or sixteen years old, and he was trembling in the cold wind with yellow muscles and thin clothes, and felt very pitiful. Over the years, he has traveled thousands of miles across several provinces, meeting many beggars who have been displaced to beg for food, and often feeling deeply ashamed of his inability to give alms. On this day, he happened to have money with him, so he stopped and said to the beggar, "All right! I am a monk, I believe in the Buddha to purify all sentient beings, you recite a sentence of Amitabha, I will give you a money, let you get married with my Buddha! ”

The young beggar looked up at Yin Guang, biting his lip and refusing to recite the Buddha. Yin Guang thought he was too little, so he said that he would give ten money if he read ten sentences, but the young beggar still refused to read it. Yin Guang suddenly realized: This young man must have thought that he was joking and did not want to be deceived and refused to read, so he opened the money bag, poured out all the jingle bells, about more than 400 copper coins, and then said with a pleasant face: "You see, as long as you read a sentence, I will give you a penny." Read it until I run out of money. ”

Those passers-by were curious, and when they understood what was going on, they all tried their best to encourage the young beggar: "Little beggar, this is a pie in the sky, and others can't find it with a lantern, so you can rest assured and boldly read it, and read this monk's money in your hand!" Monks are honest people who believe in Buddhism, we will give you a testimony, not afraid that you will not give money when you read it! ”

Seeing the excitement of the crowd gathering more and more, the young beggar cried loudly, still insisting on refusing to recite the Buddha. The people who watched the excitement suddenly deflated and slowly dispersed, and said regretfully: "This stupid beggar, it's a pity that you have a good opportunity!" ”

Yin Guang looked at the young beggar and sighed: "You lack good roots, I pity it!" Seeing each other is fate, and I can't let you leave empty-handed! With that, he gave him a piece of money, sighed and walked away.

Along the way, Yinguang continued to sigh and sigh. The monk of Yuanguang Temple, who was traveling with him, knew that he was still regretting the young beggar's refusal to recite the Buddha, so he joked: "Master Yinguang, he refused to recite the Buddha to get money, which shows that he has no relationship with the Buddha, but instead let you keep the copper coins in the money bag, so wouldn't it be better for everyone to get what they want?" ”

Yin Guang shook his head and said, "This is where I am deeply worried. At that time, the Buddha Shakyamuni founded Buddhism in order to enlighten all living beings in the world to have good roots and free them from all kinds of suffering. Since the eastward expansion of Buddhism in the Han Dynasty, China has been carried forward for thousands of years, and has replaced India, the birthplace of Buddhism, and has become the center of Buddhism in Asia. It's a pity that since the Opium War, the country has been weakening day by day, Buddhism has also declined, and the number of people who believe in Buddhism has gradually decreased, like that young beggar, who is clearly hungry and cold. My generation of Buddhism is **, with the heavy responsibility of purifying all sentient beings, how can I not be worried when I witness this situation?

The monks of the Yuanguang Temple are accustomed to hearing the abbot's great monk to recite the Buddha sincerely and abide by the precepts of the Buddha and other teachings every day, and have never heard such a discussion about the lack of good roots of people outside the temple, and they can't help but ridicule him: "Yinguang Master, I have only heard ** said, that the Confucian scholars who aspire to the world must 'worry about the world first, and enjoy the joy of the world after the world', and we are in order to get rid of the red dust and troubles, and read more scriptures in accordance with the precepts of Buddhism, why do you bother to ask for troubles?" ”
