Qian Zhengying, born in Shanghai in 1923, his ancestral home is Jiaxing, Zhejiang, and he was born in a famous family with many intellectuals in his family. From an early age, she received a rigorous education and was admitted to the Department of Civil Engineering at Shanghai Datong University when she was a little older.

During this time, Qian Zhengying aspired to become China's first female engineer, working hard to achieve this goal.

In 1941, she officially became a member of the Communist Party and left the bustling city of Shanghai to go to the revolutionary Huaibei Liberated Area to devote herself to revolutionary activities as a cultural teacher.

During this period, she was first introduced to water conservancy and in 1944 she was responsible for the restoration of the north embankment of the Huai River. During the War of Liberation, she was active in East China, serving as the deputy chief of the Transportation Section of the Military Station Department of the East China Military Region, and accumulated rich experience in water conservancy engineering, which laid a solid foundation for her future work in leadership positions.

In 1952, Ms. Qian Zhengying joined the Ministry of Water Resources as Vice Minister. The Ministry of Water Resources is one of the earliest departments established in China, with Fu Zuoyi as the first minister.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China was renamed the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China, and then changed to the Minister of Water Resources and Electric Power of the People's Republic of China. During this period, Ms. Qian Zhengying has been serving as the vice minister of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, and has made significant contributions to the construction of water conservancy projects in China.

In 1975, Qian Zhengying succeeded Zhang Wenbi as Minister of Water Resources and Electric Power, and four years later, the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power was renamed the Ministry of Water Resources, and Qian Zhengying continued to serve as the minister.

In 1982, the Ministry of Water Resources was renamed the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power again, and Qian Zhengying still served as the Minister of Water Resources. Overall, Qian Zhengying served as minister from 1975 until 1988, when she served in the Ministry of Water Resources (Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power) for a total of 13 years.

Qian Zhengying, as an outstanding minister, has remarkable achievements. Why? This is because the Three Gorges Project, which has attracted worldwide attention, was demonstrated under her auspices.

The Three Gorges Project, located on the main stream of the Yangtze River from Chongqing to Yichang in Hubei Province, is an important water conservancy construction project on the Yangtze River in China, and was officially launched in December 1994.

Long before the construction of the Three Gorges Project in the 90s of the last century, the relevant demonstration work had already begun. In 1983, the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power submitted an engineering feasibility study report to the superiors, and Qian Zhengying served as the Minister of Water Resources and Electric Power at that time.

Subsequently, in 1984, the higher authorities requested a feasibility study of the Three Gorges Project, so Qian Zhengying led and presided over this important demonstration work.

During the stage of demonstrating the Three Gorges Project, Academician Qian Zhengying organized many meetings of domestic and foreign experts and personally visited the site, and after many rounds of demonstration, the Three Gorges Project was finally approved.

At present, every year, the Three Gorges Project has created tremendous economic benefits for the country, and Academician Qian Zhengying has made great contributions. In 1988, at the first meeting of the Seventh National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Academician Qian Zhengying was elected vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and became a deputy state-level cadre.

She continues to make suggestions and suggestions for the construction and economic development of the motherland. Since then, Academician Qian Zhengying has also served as the president of the Red Cross Society of China, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997.

She has always used her wisdom to dedicate herself to the country.
