According to patentlyapple, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently officially announced that it has granted Apple 36 new patents, including patents related to next-generation lighting systems, including unique cornering lighting features.

The patent, which belongs to Apple's mysterious self-driving car project, Project Titan, describes a headlight system with cornering assist lights. In addition to providing illumination from the front, these headlights can also provide additional turning light to the sides of the vehicle as needed, making it easier for the driver to observe the road when turning or changing lanes.

To provide a compact headlamp with front illumination (e.g., with high and low beam modes) and turning light illumination, the light source and reflector for front illumination and the light source and reflector for turning light illumination can be accommodated in the same headlamp housing and can emit light through the shared aperture of the projection lens. To further enhance the (front) illumination of the headlamp (e.g. in high beam mode), one or more additional light sources can also be set up in the headlamp housing.
