BRICS is a barometer of China s growing influence

Mondo Finance Updated on 2024-02-03

The concept of BRICS was first developed by Jim, chief economist of Goldman Sachs in the United States. O'Neill proposed it in 2001 to refer specifically to the world's emerging markets.

The first meeting of China, Russia, Brazil and India on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in 2006 marked the founding of the international organization BRICS.

In 2011, the BRICS countries officially admitted South Africa, a major African country, to join the BRICS, and the BRICS countries have grown from four to five. Since then, there have been more and more countries to join the BRICS, and the BRICS countries have not only expanded their influence, but also increased the size of their membership.

On January 1 this year (2024), with the official accession of six countries (Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Argentina (subject to variability), the BRICS was expanded to 11 member countries. What is even more gratifying is that, according to South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Pandor on January 31, 34 more countries have expressed their desire to join the BRICS through written applications.

It is self-evident that the fundamental reason for the growing influence of the BRICS countries is not only that the organization represents an emerging market in the world today, but also expresses the strong desire of all countries in the world to seek cooperation and development. In particular, China's appeal and economic strength are closely related to the concept of global development that advocates a community with a shared future for mankind. It can be said that the fundamental reason for the attractiveness of BRICS countries to all countries in the world, especially developing countries, is that China's international influence is closely related to China's foreign policy of peaceful coexistence and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as well as its fair and just international image.

We have reason to believe that with the continuous enhancement of China's international status and comprehensive national strength, the scale of BRICS membership will continue to expand. This is the trend and trend of cooperation and development in today's world.
