Forestry carbon sequestration is an important way for the paper industry to implement the dual carbon strategy. In recent years, a number of paper companies have entered the carbon sink related business, in terms of forestry carbon sink, Chenming Paper currently has more than 700,000 acres of reserve forests, of which some of the qualified forest land has been used to carry out carbon sink development. As of 2022, Chenming Paper has a total of 43 forest land areas that meet the requirements of forestry carbon sink development50,000 mu, with a total average annual carbon sink of about 15240,000 tons of CO2E. At the same time, Chenming Paper has also established cooperation with carbon sink cooperative development units, and is developing the project, and will carry out forestry carbon sink certification and trading in a timely manner after the resumption of the CCER project.
With the recent release of CCER management measures and supporting rules, the development of forest land resources in the paper industry is expected to be further accelerated, and paper enterprises such as Chenming Paper will be promoted to practice the concept of green development and promote the sustainable development of the industry.
In terms of practicing sustainable development, in recent years, Chenming Paper and its subsidiaries have invested more than 8 billion yuan in environmental protection, invested in the construction of alkali system, middle water treatment system, reclaimed water reuse system, white water system, black liquor comprehensive utilization system and other pollution control facilities, and various environmental protection indicators are in the forefront of the country and even the world.
According to public information, Chenming Paper has obtained more than 400 national patent authorizations, including 39 invention patents, 7 national new products, 16 scientific and technological progress awards at or above the provincial level, 5 national science and technology projects, and 70 provincial technological innovation projects. It took the lead in passing ISO9001 quality system certification, ISO14001 environmental protection system certification and FSC-COC international forest system certification in the same industry in the country, and participated in the formulation of the group standard of "Green Factory Evaluation Specification for Paper Industry" as the main drafting unit.
