Yangtze River ** Wuhan Client, February 28 When it comes to cataracts, many people's first reaction may be "this is a disease that only the elderly can get". However, some children can also develop cataracts. Recently, a two-month-old baby was admitted to the ophthalmology department of Hubei Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital, whose black eyes were "white" and his eyes could not chase objects, and he was diagnosed with congenital cataracts. After the doctor successfully performed cataract surgery on the child, the child's vision was restored.
Two months ago, Hao Hao (pseudonym) was born, and the family was very happy. Recently, when parents tease him, they find that the child's eyes do not respond obviously, which is very different from children of the same age. Observing carefully, Haohao's eyes were black and his eyes were "white". His parents took him to the Hubei Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital for treatment. Luo Hong, director of the ophthalmology department, did a specialist examination for Haohao and diagnosed him with "congenital cataracts in both eyes".
Isn't cataract a disease of the elderly? Haohao's parents were shocked. Luo Hong introduced that Haohao suffered from congenital cataract, and the incidence of the disease was 005% or so, which seriously affects the visual development of infants and young children. If you don't have surgery as soon as possible, you will miss the best period for vision development, and you will be prone to strabismus, amblyopia, and even the risk of blindness in the future.
Hearing that such a small baby was going to have surgery, Haohao's parents were very worried. Luo Hong fully communicated with the novice parents about the child's condition and the surgical method, and suggested that the surgery should be performed as soon as possible**, so as to restore vision as soon as possible and carry out follow-up improvement of visual function**.

After full evaluation and a rigorous surgical plan, on February 26, Luo Hong carried out "double eye cataract removal + posterior capsulotomy + anterior glass resection" under general anesthesia for Haohao. During the operation, Luo Hong used an advanced microscope and a vitrectomy phacoemulsification machine to complete a series of delicate operations such as cataract aspiration, anterior and posterior capsular annular tearing, and anterior vitrectomy under a pupil with a diameter of only 3 4mm, and successfully removed the congenital cataract for Haohao within half an hour. After two days of hospitalization, Haohao's eyes recovered well, and the conjunctiva in both eyes had no obvious hyperemia and the cornea was transparent.
On February 28, Hao Hao was discharged from the hospital and went home. In the later stage, Haohao also needs to carry out continuous refractive correction and vision training** to promote the development of binocular vision function.
Cataracts are not exclusive to the elderly, and babies can get cataracts. Luo Hong introduced that children with congenital cataract need early detection, early intervention, and early development, especially in the critical period of visual development (0 3 years old), parents should regularly take their children to the hospital for vision examinations, do a good job in eye care management, and timely detect vision problems.
