Did you know that China has an artificial irrigation canal known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World"? It is the Hongqi Canal, a great project built in Linzhou City, Anyang, Henan Province after ten years.

The Hongqi Canal is an artificially constructed irrigation canal, and this place has historically been severely drought and water shortage. From the first year of orthodoxy in the Ming Dynasty to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, there were more than 100 natural disasters in Linxian County, and more than 30 major droughts were lost. The canals built in the Yuan and Ming dynasties only solved the water problem of some villages, but could not fundamentally change the water shortage situation. The cultivated area of the county is 9850,000 acres, but only 1240,000 mu, the grain output is very low, and the people live in poverty.

After the liberation of Linxian County in 1949, the county organized the construction of water conservancy projects, but the water source was limited, and it still could not solve the problem of large-scale irrigation. In 1959, Linxian County encountered another major drought, and the water source of the Zhuozhang River became a new hope. In February 1960, the people of Linxian County began to build the Hongqi Canal, after ten years of hard work, the main trunk canal was opened to water, and the three trunk canals were completed at the same time, and in 1969, the supporting construction of the trunk, branch and bucket canals was completed, so far the irrigation system with the Hongqi Canal as the main body was basically formed. It has overcome the drought problem in the local area for thousands of years and benefited future generations.
