Beijing Guojian Xinda International Technology Co., Ltd. has the exclusive right to operate Global Greentag International in China. Global GreenTag is an Australian-based third-party certification and testing organization with ISO 14040 44 certification and certification qualifications for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) verification programs and ISO 14025 EN 15804 Environmental Product Declaration EPD reports, and can issue EPD reports that meet international standards. At present, EPD has been comprehensively promoted and applied in the field of green building certification, which is LEED V4 and V4 in the United States1. In the process of green building certification, the main basis for architects to choose green building materials and an important reference sub-item of building green rating
Table 1: EPDs are included in LEED V4 releases
It is also the main evaluation item for the selection of green building materials in international green building standards such as BREEM in the UK and DGNB in Germany.
In China's three-star green building certification, the main evaluation basis for green building materials also includes the LCA report of life cycle assessment of building materials and products, and the EPD environmental product declaration report based on it.
EPD contributes to our decarbonization effortsThe construction industry has always been a key focus of various countries' decarbonization actions, so taking China as an example, how can EPD help China's decarbonization strategy?
China's dual carbon goal must be familiar to everyone, that is, to achieve carbon peak in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060. So how can we achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality? First of all, it is necessary to clarify how to calculate the dual carbon goals.
According to the United Nations Guidelines for the Preparation of National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, China emitted 12.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases in 2014, and forests absorbed 1.1 billion tons. Therefore, in order to achieve the dual carbon goal by 2060, the country needs to significantly reduce emissions by at least 90% in order to complete international compliance. This means that it is imperative for companies to decarbonize, and if they do not act, they are likely to be eliminated. And the EPD report plays an irreplaceable role in corporate decarbonization actions.
Figure 1: China's Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2014 In corporate decarbonization actions, EPD is one of the tools to help companies better understand the carbon footprint of their products and help companies find a suitable starting point for decarbonization actions.
Businesses can use EPDs to address greenhouse gas emissions from everything from sourcing goods and raw materials to business travel and employee commuting.
Through carbon verification in the EPD process, companies can identify emission hotspots in their value chain and prioritize emission reductions based on product life cycle stages.
In addition to these macro benefits, under the prevalence of the world, many countries have also introduced EPD policy requirements for products.
The policy tilt of the EPD in the international community
California's Buy Clean California Act is one of the most cutting-edge bills in the United States, and it is also the first law in the United States to address embodied carbon emissions from building materials.
California** signed the law into law in October 2017 to limit carbon emissions from certain building materials in investment projects. These building materials include steel products, glass products, insulation materials, etc.
The implementation of the bill is gradual,** requiring contractors to submit a Product Environmental Declaration (EPD) and publish carbon emissions data for building materials before the construction period in 2019, and over the next two years, the California General Services Department will collect data on carbon emissions from building materials and establish a baseline for carbon emissions in January 2021. From July 2021, the carbon emissions of certain materials in the **project must meet the baseline.

The European Union's Green Claims Directive, issued on March 22, 2023, requires companies to substantiate the claims they make by quantifying the environmental footprint of their products or services using a standard methodology. Manage some false green claims that are greenwashing or lack of transparency, and elevate counterfeit green behavior to the legal level.
Figure 2: EU Green Declaration Directive Briefing China is currently vigorously promoting green building materials product certification is not new to most people, in the application process, enterprises have an EPD report, which can greatly improve the possibility of obtaining green building materials product certification two-star three-star.
Figure 3: Requirements for auxiliary materials for green building materials product certification It can be seen that EPD as a carrier of third-party certified environmental information related to products or services, has a wide range of influence and applications at home and abroad, and internationally, Global Greentag International is a third type of environmental declaration widely recognized and applied worldwide, covering nearly all categories of products and services, especially in the field of building materials. The EPD report issued by Global Greentag International is based on objective and detailed data, and aims to help companies improve their ecological and environmental protection efforts through internationally recognized standards, scientific decision-making and targeted communication. -About us-Founded in 1956, the National Building Materials Exhibition and Trade Center (CBME) is a public institution directly under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, managed by the China Building Materials Federation (formerly the State Building Materials Industry Bureau), and is the specific implementation unit of the "China Building Materials International Capacity Cooperation Enterprise Alliance" approved by the China Building Materials Industry International Exchange and Cooperation Platform and the National Development and Reform Commission. The center takes building materials industry enterprises as the service object, and provides corresponding services and guidance for China's building materials enterprises to "go global", mainly including international production capacity cooperation, product project exchange and promotion, international group visits, domestic and international building materials product certification and licensing services, and the center's Beijing Guojian Xinda International Science and Technology Co., Ltd. Sinomaku (Beijing) Building Research Research Institute These two state-owned enterprises can undertake the above related service business.
Beijing Guojian Xinda International Technology Co., Ltd. has the exclusive right to operate Global Greentag International, a global international green label certification company, in China. Guojian Xinda is a limited liability company jointly established by China Building Materials Federation, National Building Materials Exhibition and Trade Center, and China Building Materials Market Association. Provide international industry services, build a platform for the output and introduction of key technologies, promote international certification, green certification, and mutual recognition of testing standards, and promote the creation, cultivation and promotion of Chinese building materials brands to go global.
