The Red Army's Long March was a heroic feat in the history of the Communist Party of China and the People's Army, and it was also a great event that shook the world and shined in the annals of history. Over the past 80 years, many Chinese and foreign personalities have used their pen and ink to describe and review the Red Army's Long March from different angles. Published by Northwest University Press, Notes on Revisiting the Long March is an attempt to let readers relive the feat of the Long March while walking.

Wei Yonggang, the author of "Notes on the Long March Road Again", is a journalist who re-embarked on the journey of the Red Army in a "Take the Long March Road Again" interview activity. After the interview, he never let go of the theme of "Long March" in his heart. In the course of several years, he consulted relevant materials and reminiscences, and revisited the different sections of the Red Army's Long March several times.

Many books about the Long March will not hesitate to write about those thrilling and arduous battles. The author believes: "The Long March is no longer a simple historical event, nor is it a journey that can measure geographical distance. After historical precipitation, the Long March has become a symbol full of spiritual connotation and ideological value. Therefore, the book does not focus on specific battles, but selects those "symbols" and even "historical fragments" that can evoke people's memories and emotions - a Red Army grave, a horse lantern, a pair of old straw sandals, a red flag, a silver yuan and other revolutionary relics and relics, and delicately displays the ideals and beliefs of the Long March in front of readers.

More than 80 years later, the old man Duan Guixiu still remembers that she sent Brother Jin Chang to a big camphor tree in Chetouwei. When she passed through the street, she bought a pair of shoes for her brother, and Jin Chang took off an old dress on her body, folded it carefully, and gave it to her. They parted, and Jin Chang told her that she would leave for three or five years at most, and she must wait for him to return. "A soldier named Ning Chun said, 'The revolution has won, and a big farm can be opened here, and the grass is black and fertile, and the wheat will surely grow tall when it is planted.'" Many of these episodes are recorded in the book. These stories, with historical details, restore the great journey more than 80 years ago.

In the process of transferring troops through the passage, "when the guide Yang Zaineng said goodbye to the Red Army, it was already late. The Reds left him for dinner and gave him two pieces of fur to cover his feet. Because Yang Zai was very familiar with this road, he insisted on going back. He did not expect that the platoon commander of the Red Army took out a lantern and a grenade for him to bring. The next day, the people in the village already knew that the Red Army 'did not rob things and did not catch strong men,' and they all returned to the village one after another. During the difficult journey across the meadows, "the hardships of finding food and the pain of not being able to eat in the past few days have made them crave food more than anything else." They pleaded, saying that one bag of wheat was only more than fifty catties, and that taking away two bags of wheat was not enough for the soldiers to eat, and that they had finally found such a little food, and that they had not seen their master, so why not take it? However, the chief answered the ...... of the fighters' pleas with only one sentence'I've taken it all, what will the family eat when they come back?' He 'arbitrarily' asked the soldiers: Let's use the old way, and look for them elsewhere one by one." Such a story silently expresses the deep affection between the Communist Party of China and the Red Army under the leadership of the Party and the people.

In October 2024, the 90th anniversary of the departure of the Red Army's Long March will be ushered in. At a new historical juncture, reviewing the past and learning the new can always give people new enlightenment. The author re-walks the Long March road from today's historical position, compares the past and present on the Long March road, and writes about the earth-shaking changes, using facts to praise the original intention of the communists who have made heroic sacrifices, praising the ideals and beliefs of "enduring hardships for the people, enduring all the hardships of the world, and not letting the people endure hardships again", and writing about the happy life of the people today that they have exchanged their lives and blood for. In the process of exploring history, the author also issued the "Grassland Question" -- that is, no matter when and where, all the starting points and end points of formulating the party's principles and policies must be for the sake of the masses of the people, and they often ask "what the people should do" and "what the people think."

Referring to the origin of the writing of "Notes on Re-taking the Long March", the author wrote: "These 'fragments' of history can give us more inspiration. Because the actions of ordinary soldiers more truly reflect the true colors of the ranks of the Red Army from one side. So, I spent a little bit of time describing these 'pieces' that were picked up." On the occasion of closing the volume, I think that the author's simple wish has been realized in the 190,000 words of the book, and the emotional impact and ideological enlightenment brought by this book will definitely be passed on to more readers.
