Hello readers!
In May 2022, I shared with you VDA 63 Yellow Manual changes, which serve as VDA 63: Foreshadowing of the 2023 version. On New Year's Day 2023, VDA QMC released the latest version of VDA 63 Tools Guide for Process Audit, Fourth Edition. This article will take you through the main changes in this edition of the reference book.
Before we get into the introduction, let's assume that you've received the QMC reference book, but you haven't read it in its entirety. I have made errata to the editorial errors in this edition of the reference book for your reading and reference, and the errata information is as follows:
Compared to the 2016 version, the main changes are:
The software aspect is taken into account in the questionnaire.
The content of this book is further harmonized with the VDA methodology, i.e. ASPICE and Maturity Assurance for New Parts (VDA MLA).
P3 and P4 have added requirements for procurement activities.
The qualifications of auditors are regulated.
Added instructions for conducting remote audits.
Chapter 4 ("Audit Process") has been deleted as it is already included in ISO 19011.
From VDA 6Chapter 3 ("Service Process Audit") has been deleted
Chapter 10 ("Best Practices Lessons Learned") has been deleted
The evaluation of transport and parts disposal (EU7) is omitted.
In some cases, questions with special meaning (* questions) have been redefined
Reassigned some questions for potential supplier analysis.
A comprehensive glossary has been established for all VDA volumes.
Editorial revisions.
Note: The above is an excerpt from Chapter 1: Revision Notes of the Reference Book.
Here's a personal breakdown of some of the major changes:
1.If you are evaluating the software, you can refer to spice together, which can be found on the official website ** latest version of the Chinese reference manual.
2.VDA Glossary.
At present, only German and English contexts are supported, and it is expected that the Chinese authorities will introduce them (after all, China has such a huge market, which makes sense).
3.In the future, it will be necessary to build your own "knowledge base" for implementation, either by referring to the VDA Lessons Learned volume or by introducing the "Knowledge Management" module.
4.VDA has launched a new version of the audit tool software, VDA Analysis Tool (V2), which needs to be purchased from the official; Enterprises can also revise it on the basis of the 2016 Excel report template, but it should be noted that EU7 has been removed and does not need to participate in the calculation.
Relative to the 2016 version, what has not changed is:
Classification system for the overall evaluation (a, b, c).
Question table structure.
Scoring model for a single question (10 8 6 4 0).
Applicability of process elements P2 P7, according to Figure 2-1
Turtle diagram model.
Previous downgrade rules.
Note: The above is an excerpt from Chapter 1: Revision Notes of the Reference Book. Unless otherwise specified, the 2016 version is referred to as "old version" later in the text.
Next, a summary of the changes (compared to the 2016 version), VDA 63. The application stage and the application within the chain are not within the scope of this article.
1. Changes in auditor qualifications
Overall, a chapter has been added, namely "32 The auditor's product process competence". This section mainly reflects the requirements for the "professional" knowledge of the auditor's competence (e.g. the establishment of a knowledge base, the application of lessons learned, etc.); In cases of insufficient capacity, the auxiliary means can "invite experts" to participate in the review. (Author's note: It's actually the old version of "10.")2 Knowledge Repository", moved here).
There are no key changes to the Auditor Code of Conduct.
2. Remote audit
As mentioned earlier, this is a brand new chapter. In specific scenarios, such as affecting the health of auditors or other risk factors, remote audit or hybrid audit (remote audit + on-site audit) can be used.
The requirements of this chapter are of limited use to the internal audit of enterprises. It is more suitable for second-party audits or other commissioned audits (including potential supplier audits).
The relevant content of remote audit can be referred to in the relevant chapters of Appendix A1 of ISO 19011:2018 Application of Audit Methodology, A2 Remote Audit or A16. You can also refer to the CNAS-EC-063:2021 Description of Remote Audit Activities.
3. Review of potential suppliers
1.In the definition of potential suppliers, a note has been added that P2-P4 should be used to evaluate the relocation project in the case of mass production to be relocated, emphasizing that "the question of P2 only evaluates the relocation project";
2.The number of question items has been adjusted and increased from 34 in the 2016 version to 35 (see below for specific question items);
3.The "traffic light" evaluation method continues to be used in the supply-side analysis, but the number of "red and yellow light" items has changed
In the case of red lights (prohibited suppliers), in certain circumstances (e.g. irreplaceability), management can make a decision to award the contract, but qualification measures need to be initiated. This change is more flexible (for the old version, if it's a red light, you can only say goodbye);
4.After the contract is awarded, the potential supplier's audit finds that it is "managed", which is a significant change from the previous version where there was no clear requirement.
Fourth, the process of audit and evaluation change analysis
(Chapter 6 of the 2023 edition has been increased to 7 chapters, an increase of 6.)6 "Rules for Conducting Audits" and 67 "Re-review").
1.The format of the 10-8-6-4-0 score has not changed, and the perspective of the score still reflects the application of risk-based thinking. The notable change is that the third perspective in the old version of the Score Allocation Guidelines, "Abstract Systematic Assessment", has been changed to "From the Customer's Perspective", which is excerpted below
2. 6.In Chapter 2, the previous version of the "Instructions for applying demotion rules to P6 sub-elements or process steps" was deleted in the 2023 version and merged into 6The three chapters are described uniformly, and this change is irrelevant.
3. 6.Chapter 3, deleted the old version of "P4 Evaluation Example".
The author understands that this deletion is inappropriate and should be retained. After all, P4 is a product The production process has the possibility of double evaluation (that is, the enterprise has the responsibility for product design), and the specific method is still in the old version of the instructions).
6.In Section 3, the description of the overall evaluation "EG overall assessment results are rounded to the nearest percentage" is not as easy to understand as in the old version (rounded to the nearest percentage), e.g., 9645% is rounded to 96% for such operations. (Intact in English).
4. 6.5 "Questionnaire Applications" adds a description of the scope of application of software and process materials.
Note: Process materials refer to materials that are not "part of the product" and can be understood as indirect materials. )
5.The new version mentions P3 and P4 separately and says that if "there is no product design, there is no need to mark it anymore (n.).e."This is an operational change.
6. 6.6. "Guidelines for the implementation of audits", a new chapter has been added. The main description is the operational details where there may be a "break audit". At this point, if it is an internal audit, it may not be applicable, and it is more suitable for second-party audit or potential supplier analysis.
What if an audit is interrupted, give a reason? My personal advice is to explain it on the audit input page, or on the audit report page (see the old excel template).
7. 6.7 "Re-review", a new chapter. It is mainly applicable to "interrupt the audit" or the original audit result is too poor, and the re-audit for the original audit scope should be initiated.
5. Questions asked
The total number of question items has increased from 58 to 59 (18 asterisk items), and the following is a comparison of the changes in each element
1) P2 project management
2) Planning of P3 product and production process development (title changed).
3) Implementation of P4 product and production process development (title changed).
4) P5 supplier management
5) Production process analysis p61 Process Input
6) Production process analysis p62 Process flow (atomic element "process management").
7) Production process analysis p63 Human Resources
8) Production process analysis p64 Material resources
9) Production process analysis p65 Effectiveness and efficiency (title content adjusted).
10) Production process analysis p66 Process results (output).
11) P7 Customer Service (title changed).
Based on the above, 35 question items can be derived from P1:
6. Some other views of the author himself
As with the introduction of the yellow version, here I would also like to talk about some personal views on the 2023 edition:
1.I personally disagree with the deletion of references to VDA series publications in each element, after all, the text of the 2023 edition (in the minimum requirements and examples) does not clarify the coordination between the corresponding manuals;
2.Whether you agree with it or not, my personal view is that the full VDA 63. The all-factor assessment is becoming more and more like a QMS audit;
3.As stated in the "Introduction" in the reference book, VDA 63 is a kind of evaluation and scoring system, for internal auditors, if you do not use the official app report template, you need to develop your own template format, if you use excel to make, you need a strong excel function or programming skills, which is very difficult;
4.The official did not make an explicit statement on the switch between the old version and the new version (because it is a reference book), which needs to be adopted independently or due to the specific requirements of customers, and the transition stage is unknown, but it is recommended that enterprises prepare for the switch; (If your business doesn't have a software development nature, I personally think the old version can still be used).
Due to space limitations, this article does not summarize the changes in the minimum requirements for each element, please pay attention to our latest plan for this course in the future!
We hope that the content of this article will help you learn and use the latest version of the tool guide.
Thanks for reading!
