Controversy Project
In my more than ten years in the workplace, I have seen more than a dozen layoffs, large and small, and I have experienced layoffs myself. But what impressed me the most was the dismissal of the general manager of a business unit because this person was extraordinary.
Wu was always a colleague of mine at my last company. His hometown is Shandong, he has worked in the company for more than ten years, and he joined within a few years of the company's establishment, followed the boss through ups and downs, and witnessed the company from small to large, from scratch. From more than 20 people to hundreds of people. Mr. Wu has also grown from an ordinary employee to the director of the business department with the development of the company. His dedication to the company can be said to be no more.
Mr. Wu has the unique boldness of Shandong people, a proper temperament, speaks straightforwardly, and does not like to beat around the bush. At work, if you are dissatisfied with anyone, or who is not doing well, you will be directly scolded in person, not with you, or even without regard to the situation. If he has any ideas, he will not vomit or be unhappy. Mr. Wu's personality and temper treat everyone equally, even the boss is no exception.
Because he is from the bottom all the way to the director of the business department, Mr. Wu is used to doing specific transactional work, and sometimes he likes to do it himself. He told us that he likes the feeling of busyness and doesn't like the so-called management work with a false head.
Mr. Wu is diligent and conscientious in his work. If the task assigned to the subordinate is not completed, he will trouble you as soon as possible. Once, Xiao Young provoked him and directly told him to get out. Therefore, no one dares to hang on when they are working. It is very comfortable to do things under Mr. Wu, he is real to his subordinates, and he does not mess up the management routines, as long as everyone does things well for him, he will not care about some small problems.
Outside of work, Mr. Wu takes meticulous care of his subordinates, drinking, masturbating, and chatting with everyone like an old friend. In the company, Mr. Wu greeted everyone with a smile and liked to tell stories and jokes to everyone. He is very polite to the company's security uncle and cleaning sister.
However, suddenly one day, Lao Yang and the boss had a big quarrel. The reason for the quarrel was that the boss was not satisfied with the product design and asked Mr. Wu to study it again, but in fact, the design plan had been changed more than a dozen times. Lao Wu's temper came up. He scolded the boss and said that he couldn't change it, the product hadn't been listed yet, and it would have to be adjusted after market verification. Later, the product design plan was still unchanged, but the feedback was still good after it was put into the market.
But it didn't take long for the boss to hire an executive from Shenzhen with a high salary through a headhunting company, saying that he was on an equal footing with Mr. Wu, but in fact he took away a lot of work from Mr. Wu. Mr. Wu is also able to manage fewer and fewer things, and he is becoming more and more empty. Later, Mr. Wu left the company. I don't know how the boss talked to Mr. Wu. On the surface, Mr. Wu resigned for personal reasons. But everyone knows that Mr. Wu has two children in elementary school, and his wife is a full-time mother, and he has been in the company for so many years, so it is impossible for him to take the initiative to lose his job.
The executives who came in the airborne were deeply appreciated by the boss. His management model is to do what the boss asks. The boss said that the product should be novel, and he made the product bells and whistles. The boss said that he wanted to streamline the staff, so he came up with a policy of one person with more posts. It didn't take long for this person to be promoted to vice president. Mr. Wu has been busy in the company for more than ten years, and he is just the general manager of a business department.
The new executives don't like everyone, and many people can't get used to him, finding fault everywhere, giving random instructions, saying poisonous chicken soup, that's all. There has been no new improvement in the company's business situation. But the boss is still willing to reuse this person.
In the workplace, I really don't understand that a diligent person like Mr. Wu will eventually be fired by the boss. Could it be that the boss really thinks that Wu always can't do this position well, so he gives up on him? I think Mr. Wu lost because he didn't do what the boss wanted.
Layoffs have nothing to do with effort. Iron battalions, flowing soldiers. In the workplace, you give the boss 996, and there are people who are younger than you who can survive to replace you, and you can create performance for the boss, and there are people who can replace you who are more capable than you. As long as your skills still depend on the value network of your boss, you can't have irreplaceability. Unless you are a shareholder or investor, most people want to accumulate capital.
The real irreplaceability is always the value network that belongs only to oneself, such as one's own unique network, such as learning a technology that can be freelanced, such as owning assets that can generate free cash flow without working.
