Remember the scene when the movie "Monster of the Han River" (2006) was first released? No one would have thought that there is another place in the world besides Hollywood that would make science fiction movies so good!
Fast forward to 2016, and a movie called "Train to Busan" made audiences all over the world turn their attention to South Korea again. Zombie-themed movies are no longer Hollywood's unique stunts, and even more new ideas have been made.
The movie I want to share with you today is also a movie about science fiction and thrillers, "Concrete Utopia", although after its release, the cumulative number of viewers exceeded the 2 million mark on the same day and topped the box office list, but the reviews of the movie are seriously polarized. Some viewers classify "can't read" as "not good-looking", which is understandable, after all, for a movie, it is difficult to make everyone like it.
The film is set in the abandoned Seoul after the Great **, and tells the story of the survivors in the "palace apartment" after the disaster, and in order to survive, they begin to make new rules while completely preventing outsiders from entering the apartment. The result was a utopian palace apartment. However, the existential crisis has not been resolved, in this seemingly peaceful utopian world, which is disintegrating from the inside out, the conflict of human nature is constantly staged, but in the end, no matter who it is, they must abide by the survival rules of the survivors, otherwise they can only leave.
The plot of this film blends elements such as disaster, science fiction and thriller, and shows the complexity of human society by telling the story of the establishment of a new order in human society and the state of human existence in difficult situations and conditions in extreme environments.
Another highlight of the film is the presentation of the disaster before and after, the director has put a lot of effort into the use of lens language and the grasp of the narrative rhythm, which makes people daunting, and can't help but sigh at the insignificance of human beings in front of nature.
The film will also represent South Korea in the Oscar International Film Awards, and I don't know if it will be honored. As for whether anyone gives it a high rating, it is not enough to change the meaning of this movie.
