Since the beginning of May, DHL freight trains have been running three round trips per week between Duisburg, Germany and Paderburg, Denmark.
As a result of the new connection, up to 240 trucks per week will be loaded from road to rail, saving $1 per truck relocated05 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to 250 tonnes of CO2 per week, or 11,500 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Bonn- DHL Freight is launching a new, sustainable multimodal rail freight solution between Germany and Denmark. Freight trains are weekly.
1. Departures from Ziel Terminal GmbH in Duisburg on Wednesdays and Fridays. In Denmark, every week.
2. Departure from Paderburg on Thursdays and Sundays from the Combined Transit Terminal. The transit time of railway transportation is about 12 hours, which can provide services for customers who transport truckloads. Of course, DHL Freight also offers end-to-end solutions including pick-up and delivery. The operator of the rail connection is the railway logistics company TX Logistik, which maintains an efficient European network connecting 11 countries. As part of Mercitalia Logistics, TX Logistik is responsible for the development of the group's international activities. Therefore, being able to strengthen its network with high-profile customers like DHL is an important step on this path.
We are launching this new train connection specifically for our customers. In line with our sustainability strategy to achieve net-zero emissions logistics by 2050 and the growing demand from our customers for green transport solutions, the paradigm shift from road to rail in some relationships is "a powerful lever to reduce CO2 emissions." We expect this new rail service alone to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 11,500 tonnes per year. This is the perfect complement to our recently launched GoGreen Plus service," says Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight.
The solution is another milestone for DHL Freight's road to rail business, benefiting routes from Denmark to the Benelux countries and Germany, providing smoother logistics, lower emissions and improved freight reliability. As part of its sustainability roadmap and in line with the sustainability goals of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, DHL Freight plans to further increase the use of rail connections and intermodal transport solutions. Today, DHL Freight has partnered with different rail carriers to transport goods by more than 3,900 trains on various ** routes across Europe. In Germany alone, DHL Freight transports more than 970 trailers per week by rail for heavy-duty transport.
Reducing emissions through rail transport.
Due to the enhanced use of the rail network, the new connection will greatly ease road traffic. Up to 240 trucks per week can be transported by rail transport. Since rail transport is a less carbon-intensive logistics option, significant CO2 savings can be made. For each truck transferred, it can be reduced by 105 tonnes of CO2 emissions, up to 250 tonnes per week and up to 11,500 tonnes per year. Combined with DHL Freight's GoGreen Plus service for pickup and delivery, customers will have the opportunity to significantly reduce emissions from land transport.
Deutsche Post DHL Group is constantly pursuing the goal of reducing all logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050. The new train connection is expected to be another effective factor in achieving this important goal and represents a solid step forward in its sustainability strategy.
