At the beginning of October 1940, Han Deqin, deputy commander-in-chief of the Lusu Theater and chairman of Jiangsu Province, was a diehard Kuomintang faction that gathered 26 regiments with a total strength of more than 34,000 troops and attacked Huangqiao, the headquarters of the New Fourth Army in northern Jiangsu, in three directions. The three regiments of the Tao Yong Division of the Third Column of the Northern Jiangsu Headquarters of the New Fourth Army held on to Huangqiao Town and undertook the frontal blockade.
After the gunfire of the decisive battle at Huangqiao, the cooks of the three columns all went to the front line to participate in the battle, and the cooking squad could not make fires for cooking, and the commanders and fighters of the New Fourth Army on the front line had a big problem eating. In order to feed the commanders and fighters of the New Fourth Army and eliminate the recalcitrant army, the 66 bakers in the town immediately took action, and rushed to make all kinds of baked cakes such as jar cakes, "straw soles", and oblique cakes day and night, and sent them to the front committee, and then sent to the front line by the workers and workers of the Workers' Resistance Committee and the Merchant Resistance Association.
At that time, Liu Runbao's baked cake shop was located outside Dongkouzi, about 200 meters away from the recalcitrant army and less than 10 meters away from Tao Yong's headquarters in the third column of the New Fourth Army. The task assigned to Liu Runbao by the front committee is not only to make and deliver baked cakes to the head of the headquarters, but also to ensure that the new regiment at the front is part of it. At that time, the fighting became more and more fierce, and the recalcitrant army blocked the road from the town to the front line with dense firepower, and sent the baked cakes to the front line at any time and at any time in danger of being hit by bullets.
That morning, when Liu Runbao was delivering baked cakes to the headquarters, Director Tang of the Adjutant's Office said to him: "Master Liu, the enemy has strengthened its firepower today, and it is very dangerous to send baked cakes directly from your house to the east to the front line, so we have to take a detour from your house to the south." Liu Runbao patted his chest and said, "Director Tang, no matter how dangerous it is, you must always send the baked cakes to the front line." ”
Back at home, Liu Runbao hurriedly packed the baked cakes into baskets and flour bags. His wife was not at ease and wanted to go with him. He comforted his wife and said: "There are many people, it is easy to expose the target, and it is safer to walk alone." As he spoke, he carried a basket in one hand and a bag in the other, and walked south with his waist bowed.
Along the winding and low-lying paths, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly. Enemy bullets flew overhead, and he was not afraid at all, only thinking about delivering the baked cakes to the front as soon as possible. Liu Runbao finally passed through the rain of bullets and delivered more than 200 baked cakes to the commanders and fighters on the front line of Dongkouzi.
Afterwards, Director Tang held Liu Runbao's hand and said, "Master Liu, you took the risk to send baked cakes, you really deserve to be a heroic Huangqiao person!" Positive energy
