In addition to visiting the museum, you can also come to Dongshan to visit the garden!
Walking into the Dongshan Western-style buildings, after seeing the front porch, you can feel the eternal atmosphere, and the time of a hundred years will come to your face.
Spring Garden. No. 24 Xinhepu Road, there are three small western-style buildings with a unified style hidden in the green shade, which used to be the first office of the Communist Party of China - Spring Garden, after a hundred years of wind and rain, the style is still the same.
In April 1923, the CCP** moved from Shanghai to Guangzhou. During the three major periods of the Communist Party of China in June 1923, some representatives such as Chen Duxiu, Li Dazhao, **Cai Hesen, Xiang Jingyu, Zhang Tailei, and Ma Lin, a representative of the Communist International, lived and worked at No. 24 Chunyuan. Due to financial, safety and environmental considerations, the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China also rented a small two-story house near the Spring Garden as a meeting venue. It can be said that in the time and space before and after the three major meetings of the Communist Party of China, Spring Garden is a very important "witness".
Kui Garden. Located on the road of the orphanage, Kuiyuan is a western-style building built by Ma Zhuowen, an overseas Chinese in the United States, with a three-storey and reinforced concrete structure. In the past, there were many palmetto trees planted in the courtyard, which were lush and green, so it was also called "Kwai Garden". Although it has been baptized by the years, the texture of the wooden stairs and handrails is still clearly recognizable, and the parquet bricks are still smooth and shiny.
The word "1922" is prominently carved on the top floor of Kui Yuan, marking the year of construction, which is an important coordinate when the three major meetings of the Communist Party of China are held.
Kui Yuan was restored in 2011 and revitalized into an innovative art space integrating art exhibitions, cultural and leisure activities and art life experience.
Ming Yuan. Ming Yuan, located at No. 12 Orphanage, is two three-story red brick buildings of the same style. In this ** small western-style building, the French style is combined with Chinese elements, and the red and green systems collide, which is gorgeous and high-end, giving people a sense of brightness.
Jue Garden. Dongshan Department Store is located in the bustling and lively urban area, and there is a small alley behind it, which is quiet and leisurely. Less than 100 meters, prosperity and tranquility are intertwined in this square inch. In 1926, an Australian returned overseas Chinese built an imitation Western-style villa here, and this red brick villa with the most elegant temperament was named Luyuan.
In 2016, a photographer and his wife became the owners of the villa. They transformed it into a retro-style B&B. This is Jueyuan 1984.
With spacious courtyards, lush bamboo forests, teak doors and windows, vintage tiles and vinyl records, everything is just right, old and new, Chinese and Western.
Cypress Garden. Baiyuan was built in 1923 and is the largest existing residential building in Dongshankou and even in the whole of Guangzhou.
On October 22, 1928, the Institute of History and Language was formally established in Baiyuan, which is China's first national research institute in archaeology, history and linguistics and other modern humanities disciplines, and has gathered a group of world-renowned scholars such as Fu Sinian, Gu Jiegang, Yang Zhensheng, Chen Yinke, Zhao Yuanren, etc., and has made brilliant achievements in many fields such as archaeological excavation, paleography, folklore, dialect investigation, anthropology, ethnology, etc., laying the starting point for the development of modern new scholarship in China.
On February 8, 2018, the building was identified as a historical building in Guangzhou by the people of Guangzhou. On July 23, 2022, the people of Guangdong Province announced the 10th batch of cultural relics protection units in Guangdong Province, and Baiyuan was included in the list of cultural relics protection units in Guangdong Province.
After the opening, the Park Garden set up the "Park Cantonese Book Bar" and themed exhibitions on the first and second floors of the West Block. The thematic exhibition on the second floor is divided into three sections: "Creating a Career Out of Nothing: The Establishment of the Institute of History and Linguistics", "Finding Things with Your Hands and Feet: Research Work in the Early Years of the Institute of History and Linguistics", and "Turning the Past into the New: The Preservation and Utilization of the Former Site of the Institute of History and Linguistics (Baiyuan)".
