Statues were torn down, place names erased and renamed, the original heroes of the revolution were forbidden to mention, and their crude successors were deified. Money was printed in large quantities, leading to inflation and economic collapse. The Jacobins sought to eradicate religion, both materially and spiritually. They first replaced God with an atheistic Cult of Reason, and then an even stranger Cult of Supreme Being, a fictional, vivid, humanistic God that only the murderous Robespierre could fully imagine. This is very similar to the green new political god of the United States.
The deadly Cultural Purge is unstoppable. Yesterday's French revolutionaries became today's counter-revolutionaries and tomorrow will be beheaded. Almost all those who initially opposed an absolute monarchy were eventually executed by the revolutionaries, and those who were executed by the more radical revolutionaries. The longer the revolution goes on, the more radical it becomes, and the more **, stupid and deadly the revolutionaries who emerge from the ground.
