Fast Technology reported on February 16 that in 2018, Globalfoundries had no choice but to give up the research and development of the 7nm process because of the lack of technology and money.

However, if you don't make progress, you will be abandoned by society sooner or later.

Globalfoundries now admits that customers are moving to sub-10nm processes faster than expected, and that the company is not in good shape and looking for a better future.

Globalfoundries' total revenue in 2023 is 73$9.2 billion, with a net profit of 10$1.8 billion, compared to $81. in 20220.8 billion U.S. dollars, 14The $4.6 billion decline was due to inventory adjustments and the fact that many customers switched to other foundries and processes.

By line of business, the communications infrastructure and data center businesses suffered the most losses, with the proportion of revenue falling from 18 to 12, while the proportion of revenue from smart mobile devices fell from 46 to 41, and the proportion of PC equipment revenue fell from 4 to 3.

Only automobile-related revenues increased significantly from 5 to 14.

Globalfoundries' current state-of-the-art process node is still 12LP+, which is an upgraded version of its 12LP and 14LPP, which is comparable to the 10nm of other companies.

However, TSMC and Samsung's 7nm are already very mature, and their integration density, performance, and energy efficiency are all incomparable to GlobalFoundries 12LP+.
