Slow work for the production of the limited edition BMW 3 0 CSL

We come to BMW's factories in Landshut and Moosthenning to reveal the exclusive manufacture of the limited edition BMW 30 CSL production process.

That's definitely a lot of money: 5850,000 euros! This is especially the difference in price between two vehicles with similar technical equipment, which is even more incredible. Actually, from another point of view, you can put this limited edition of 50 BMW 3The 0 CSL is the M4 CSL with a manual gearbox, which has been modified with a large amount of carbon and is dressed in a rather period (painted) coat. It is understood that the manual transmission is applied only in 3On the 0 model, the M4 CSL and M3 CS still use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition, 3The 0 CSL model gets an extra 10 hp (560 hp instead of 550 hp). However, in terms of torque, the 550 Nm is relatively inferior (650 Nm for the M4 CSL), which is designed to protect the gearbox. Here's an interesting detail: the standard M4 is also fitted with the ZF gearbox, but because it has a higher power output, it has to be replaced after 50,000 kilometers as a precautionary measure, and the costs incurred are entirely at the owner's expense. As for in 3It is uncertain whether the same kilometer replacement requirements are also required on 0 CSL models.

Technically, they don't differ much. The main difference is in the production process. Although all mid-spec M models are produced off the assembly line in the workshop in Dingolfing, but 30 CSL models have an exclusive manual production line.

3.The M4 main body used by 0 CSL is welded on the regular Dingolfing line. Next the body comes to a special area for widening, which is to be able to achieve the results from the old 30 CSL wheel arch design inspiration. It will then be painted. And that's where the manual work really begins, as the classic BMW tri-colour M stripe that runs through the car is painted rather than stamped onto the body in anodized aluminium.

Specifically, the three M colours of primer and dark blue paint are applied during the regular high-volume production process, the body frame and doors are also installed at the Dingolfing plant, while other components such as the fenders, hood and tow hook front cover are assembled at the parts factory in Landshut. The plant is also home to BMW's custom paint and paint shop.

The body parts are painted, sanded and skinned by hand until up to 7 layers of paint are superimposed on each other to bring the designer's ideas to life. Blue is processed first, then red, and finally light blue and white. These colored paints alternate with clear paint, and so on, until the last layer of clear paint is painted, and then re-enter the production hall to spray the last layer of clear paint.

The skin uses a special contour masking film that needs to be applied to the body with the help of laser projection and a template that simulates the occupancy of adjacent parts. Even so, the difficulty is quite large. The biggest challenge is how to smoothly cover the lines on the surface of the part, which requires extreme precision.

The work will be done by five carefully selected painters. Project Manager Dr. Christian Koch explains: "Not only do they have to keep all the colors in mind, but most importantly they have to have a particularly good feel for where each part of the vehicle is painted. "When working on the skin, whether it is the "M" stripe on the whole car, the number "50" on the top of the car, or the "M-Power" on the rear of the car, there are extremely high requirements for the feeling of fingertips.

Between two layers of white paint is covered with clear paint, up to the last layer. The polishing process is divided into several steps that are carried out entirely by hand and in a meticulous process.

However, there was no such thing as a sports car rolling off the assembly line at Landshut. 3.The assembly of the 0 CSL still had to be carried out back to Dingolveen, or rather in Lower Bavaria, a small town called Moosthenning, with only 4,700 inhabitants, which houses a small BMW factory. In two halls of about 1,000 square meters, the 50 cars were assembled by hand by 30 skilled assemblers for about three months.

In workshop No. 1, the assembly of the body began. The gap between the hood and the trunk lid is carefully checked by means of differential measuring instruments. Next up are the overlays and interior parts. Even the most collectible car No. 1 has just received a dashboard with the corresponding stamp imprint. Why wasn't Car No. 1 produced ahead of schedule? Franz Xavel Karl, plant manager at moosthenning, explains: "This depends on the production batches of the right- and left-hand drives. "First it's the right-hand drive, and then it's the left-hand drive for the continental European market.

In order to maintain high-quality production, especially in accordance with the factory's quality management standards, tightening torques as well as installed components and all other production details are electronically documented. The production process consists of four work cycles per production hall. How long does each cycle last? Unlike the minute-by-minute cycle of a large factory, here is a full working day! The chassis is not assembled on an assembly line, but is pushed from one station to the next by a trolley.

The core components are assembled in Hall 2. The engine is supplied at the BMW Engine Plant in Austria, and the transmission is powered by ZF technology. First, on the right side of the equipment line, the powertrain including the engine, gearbox and axle is pre-installed on a movable platform. Professionals also install 3 with ** differential lock here0 model dedicated subframe. Subsequently, the entire drivetrain was combined with the body components at one go in a high-profile "wedding".

By the way, put the luggage compartment lid on the 3The 0 CSL logo may require sensitive fingertip touch and a high degree of precision, but it takes a lot of effort to put the 20-inch and 21-inch wheels on the front and rear axles. A huge torque wrench is used to apply up to 930 Nm of tightening torque to the ** locking screw of the golden wheel. The last station is filled with a variety of liquids, and from here the leak test begins, which results in the joyful roar of the in-line six-cylinder engine resounding in both halls.

At the end of the production process, the vehicle acceptance is returned to the main plant in Dingolfing. From there, it will be sent to the bench for standardized acceptance tests and further quality checks, and the car will be driven to BMW's own test track for a pre-defined driving procedure. Only by completing all of the above items, 30 CSL is allowed to be delivered to the user.

But who are these users exactly? BMW weighed 30 CSL is "a gift to long-time loyal BMW fans". However, this only applies to car owners in Europe, as CSL has not yet obtained a road permit in other regions. The process of selecting a car owner may vary depending on the market.

A total of 11 cars will be placed on the German market, which will be determined by a lottery of selected candidates who are interested in the car. In addition, there is one point to clarify, 30 CSL is not just 50, but 51. Because there is a CSL with the number "0" that will go directly to the BMW Museum as an exhibit.

Such a 3.0 csl**geometry? BMW has never officially announced this issue, but when asked whether the rumored 750,000 euros is real-time, BMW still said that it will not be announced to the public. But they also did not deny the amount mentioned.

Therefore, these rumors about **, which is 584 800 euros more expensive than the M4 CSL, are not unfounded. Of course, such a meticulous production process also makes it many times more unique, even the most nitpicky person must admit it.

You get what you pay for: BMW 3The production process at 0 CSL is made with great attention to detail, which is probably unique even in Germany. Technically, it is based on an off-the-shelf assembly line product, but it is different from a conventional assembly line product. Only 50 lucky winners will receive this exclusive collection.
