Will the first place in the Three Kingdoms be Guan Yu? Evaluate the true strength of the famous generals of the Three Kingdoms
The debate about the first general of the Three Kingdoms has been going on for a long time, and Guan Yu is certainly one of the candidates. However, whether Guan Yu is the first general of the Three Kingdoms has to be said separately.
i.Guan Yu's status in Shu Han.
Xuzhou was the first place where Liu Bei bought his base. After Tao Qian's death, Liu Bei became the master of Xuzhou.
The center of Xuzhou was in Xiapi (also known as Pengcheng when Chu and Han fought each other, now Xuzhou). After Liu Bei conquered Xuzhou, he should have been placed in Xiapi, but Liu Bei was placed in Xiaopei and asked Guan Yu to protect Xiapi, which was understandable.
When Liu Bei had to divide his troops, he ordered himself to lead one side and Guan Yu to lead the other.
After Cao Cao's crusade against Liu Biao, Liu Bei retreated south, and then ordered Guan Yu to retreat to Xiakou (present-day Wuhan) first. This decision allowed Liu Bei to escape. Cao Cao ordered 5,000 elite cavalry to pursue Liu Bei, who drove 300 miles in one day and night. At the critical moment, Guan Yu, who led the fleet to meet Liu Bei, let Liu Bei escape.
After seizing Jingzhou, Liu Bei continued to seek the territory of Bashu, but decided to leave Guan Yu in Jingzhou. Liu Bei lost to Pang Tong in a decisive battle with Liu Zhang, and transferred Zhuge Liang from Jingzhou to his side, making Guan Yu the sole decision-maker in Jingzhou.
In short, Liu Bei chooses Guan Yu every time he divides his troops, which means that he has full trust in Guan Yu, and it is also a reflection of Guan Yu's outstanding ability. I have to say that Guan Yu can often complete the tasks assigned to him by Liu Bei very well.
In the entire Shuhan Group, Guan Yu's position is unique. Liu Bei established himself as the queen of Hanzhong and handed over the power of the false festival battle axe to Guan Yu. The so-called fake tomahawk means that he can directly kill soldiers in his army who disobey military orders, without having to report it to the officials. In Liu Bei's time, Guan Yu was the only person in the entire Shu Han regime who had this right.
Therefore, Guan Yu easily became the number one general of Shu Han.
The merits of Guan Yu II.
Guan Yu's exploits began with beheading Yan Liang.
Yuan Shao wanted to fight a decisive battle with Cao Cao and sent Yan Liang as the vanguard to attack the white horse. The White Horse was located in the eastern region of Yanzhou, and Yuan Shao's army actually entered Cao Cao's territory. Cao Cao had no choice but to meet the enemy under the leadership of Zhonglang general Zhang Liao and general Guan Yu, and Xu Huang and other personal soldiers quickly followed.
When Zhang Liao and Yan Liang were fighting side by side, Guan Yu found Yan Liang, rode forward, killed him in a million army, and then cut off Yan Liang's head with a sword. When we read "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", we often hear that General XX was beheaded in a million army, as if it were a sack. But in real history, Guan Yu was the only one who was killed in an army of tens of thousands.
In this battle, Guan Yu fully demonstrated his personal heroism. But Guan Yu is not only that, he is also good at fighting big battles.
Here I have to talk about Guan Yu's Northern Expedition.
After Guan Yu obtained the false tomahawk, he quickly launched a military attack on Cao Wei. Guan Yu did not have many troops at that time, only about 30,000 men, but he was the first to launch an attack on the powerful Cao Wei. The first target was Fancheng, which Cao Ren defended. Cao Cao knew Guan Yu's prestige and was worried that Cao Ren would not be able to defeat Guan Yu, so he sent Yu Ban to lead an army to reinforcements.
The defenders Cao Ren and Yu Ban had more reinforcements than Guan Yu. However, Guan Yu adopted a battle plan to besiege the city and send reinforcements, taking the ban as the main target of attack, and skillfully using the weather to ensure that it was completely annihilated. Yu Ban's 30,000-strong army was completely annihilated. Yu Ban was captured, surrendered to Guan Yu, and his subordinate Pang De was beheaded.
After this battle, Cao Cao even held a meeting to discuss moving the capital to avoid Guan Yu. This is not alarmist, because Guan Yu was only a few hundred kilometers away from Xuchang at that time.
So, Cao Cao took Sima Yi's advice and strangled Guan Yu in this Northern Expedition with Sun Wu. This is the only time in the history of Shu Han that it was attacked by Wei and Wu, and Guan Yu's integrity can be seen.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Guan Yu is the first fierce general of the Three Kingdoms.
Three. Zhang Fei treated his subordinates harshly, often beating and scolding his subordinates, Liu Bei persuaded him many times, but it was all in vain, and Zhang Fei finally died at the hands of his subordinates. Guan Yu likes soldiers, but he often looks at soldiers coldly, Liu Bei often persuades him, Guan Yu doesn't listen, and in the end, although Guan Yu died in Wu State, the main reason is still outside his own people.
Guan Yu's Northern Expedition needed someone to protect his family, so Guan Yu chose Liu Bei's brother-in-law Mi Fang to protect Jiangling. There is a small town next to Jiangling, which is also the last barrier of Jiangling, and Guan Yu asked Fu Shiren to guard it. However, these two men, along with the town, eventually surrendered to Soochow, and Guan Yu's Northern Expedition was also in vain, until he lost his life.
Liu Bei couldn't help but sigh when he saw that someone had reached the fate of Zhang Fei and Guan Yu early in the morning.
