The kindergarten is gone, what should the child do?

Mondo Parenting Updated on 2024-02-02

As soon as the semester ended, there was a lot of news about the termination of kindergartens in various places, which was regrettable, including some public kindergartens.

Parents are anxious, what can I do, the kindergarten at the door of the house, which was originally good, is gone.

Let's start with three examples

1.In December 2023, Hunan Province, as a province with a large population and a large education province, proposed for the first time to adjust the layout of provincial kindergartens, organize kindergartens in an orderly manner and transfer them, and no new kindergartens will be added in rural areas in principle.

2.Also in August, the Education Bureau of Linquan County, Anhui Province issued an announcement to terminate the operation of 50 private kindergartens, of which 12 applied for termination of schooling, and 38 did not actually enroll.

3.As the third largest economic city in the country, Shenzhen has stepped up the construction of kindergartens in the face of population influx. From 2018 to 2022, the number of schools of all types in Shenzhen increased from 2,500 to 2,862, and the number of public schools increased from 579 to 1,000.

There are three reasons for the decline in kindergartens:

1.Declining demand for kindergartens due to declining births:

The decrease in the number of kindergartens in Hunan Province and Linquan County in Anhui Province is mainly due to the decrease in the number of births. Nationally, the number of births fell from 18.83 million in 2016 to 9.56 million in 2022, a change that directly affected the number of kindergarten students, leading to a reversal of supply and demand.

2.Policy Orientation and Expansion of Public Kindergartens:

*The emphasis on preschool education and the increase in the construction of public kindergartens are also contributing to the decrease in private kindergartens. For example, in Linquan County, Anhui Province, while closing private kindergartens, nine public kindergartens were built, renovated and expanded, and the number of public kindergarten places was increased.

3.Population movements lead to a redistribution of educational resources

With the advancement of urbanization, population mobility has intensified, and the demand and supply of educational resources have changed between different regions. The influx of large numbers of rural people into cities has led to a surplus of kindergartens in rural areas, while demand for kindergarten places remains high in urban areas.

At the same time of the orderly withdrawal and merger of kindergartens, Hunan has also built, renovated and expanded a number of public kindergartens in areas with new urban population.

What should parents do about these situations?

What we need to affirm is that the policy orientation is more conducive to the development of preschool education, although there are factors of demographic change and urbanization process, but before the kindergarten is small, the facilities are not complete, the educational resources are backward, the fire is not up to the standard and so on, but also parents are worried.

With the development of society and the improvement of people's quality of life, it will inevitably go through the process of resource integration and survival of the fittest.

As parents, we need:

1.It is necessary to understand the layout and policies of local kindergartens, and pay attention to the enrollment information and policy changes of kindergartens.

At present, there are new or expanded public kindergartens in various places, including private kindergartens on the scale, if there is a shortage of kindergarten places nearby, you can consider choosing some kindergartens with school bus pick-up, or choose some kindergartens that can provide accommodation, so that it is convenient for parents to take care of their children.

Therefore, you can pay more attention to the local education bureau to learn about the kindergarten information for the first time.

2.While the number of kindergartens is decreasing, there is also the promotion of pre-school educational institutions with another type of education.

Parents can try to choose some other types of early childhood education institutions, such as nurseries, early education centers, etc., which can provide different educational services from kindergartens, such as providing more parent-child interaction and early education services.

In short, in the face of the reduction of kindergartens, parents need to be rational, understand policy and market changes, choose the right kindergarten, and at the same time also need to strengthen management and planning to ensure the healthy development of preschool education.
