On 9 January, Dongguan's first health service centre for Hong Kong and Macao residents was opened in Dongguan People's Hospital. In the future, Hong Kong and Macao residents, foreigners and local residents will be able to enjoy services such as Hong Kong-style general practice, Guangdong-Hong Kong specialist outpatient clinics, Hong Kong vaccines, cross-border referrals, and direct payment of insurance claims.
Dongguan and Hong Kong have always had a close relationship, with more than 8,000 Hong Kong enterprises operating in Dongguan, equivalent to about one-third of the total number of Hong Kong enterprises in the Greater Bay Area. In the context of the construction of the Greater Bay Area, there is a lot of room and promise for cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong, and Dongguan is constantly expanding the depth and breadth of cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong.
Medical care is the basic guarantee for Hong Kong and Macao people working and living in the Mainland. In August 2022, the first health service centre for Hong Kong and Macao residents in the Mainland was opened in Huangpu, Guangzhou. In less than a year and a half since then, there have been five health service centers for Hong Kong and Macao residents in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The opening of a health service centre for Hong Kong and Macao residents in Dongguan has become the expectation of many Hong Kong people.

Relevant leaders of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Dongguan Municipal Party Committee also attended the opening ceremony, hoping that the two sides will actively innovate the successful experience of medical services, further promote the medical cooperation and exchanges between Guangdong and Hong Kong, build a collaborative medical system between Dongguan and Hong Kong, and create an "innovative model of integrated medical services between Dongguan and Hong Kong".
