Porsche has unveiled two new plug-in hybrid panameras, and the German automaker wants to hedge against emerging market risks by offering a wider range of electrification options. At the end of last year, Porsche unveiled the third generation of the Panamera, which includes the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, the first of four Panamera E-Hybrid models that will eventually be launched. Today, Porsche has added two more models: the Panamera 4 e-hybrid and the Panamera 4S e-hybrid, with a fourth model to be announced at a later date.

Porsche says the launch of the two new hybrid models is in response"There is a huge demand for an efficient, dynamic e-hybrid powertrain"。In fact, the demand for hybrid vehicles in a variety of markets is also growing amid a slowdown in the growth of BEV sales.

Of course, since it's a Porsche, it won't be cheap. Prices start at $117495 for the 4 e-hybrid, while $128795 for the 4s e-hybrid (both with shipping included). Pre-orders are available from the end of March, with deliveries expected in the fall.

The Panamera 4 e-hybrid will be connected to the new hybrid powertrain"Dramatically improved"of 2The combination of a 9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with an output of 224 kilowatts or 300 horsepower provides better acceleration and higher torque. The combined system has a power of 346 kilowatts or 463 horsepower, a maximum torque of 479 lb-ft, and a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 39 seconds for a top speed of 174 mph.

At the same time, the 4S e-hybrid will also be equipped with a 2A 9-liter six-cylinder engine with a slightly higher output of 260 kilowatts or 348 horsepower. The Panamera 4S e-hybrid is available in 3Accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph.

There is more to be commended about the two new models, including higher charging speeds and better throttle response. The capacity of the new battery is also larger, reaching a total capacity of 259 kWh, among the top plug-in hybrids. Porsche says it has about 45 percent more capacity than its predecessor.

Under the right conditions, an 11 kW on-board AC charger can charge the battery in as little as two hours. Complementing the gasoline engine, the all-new electric motor puts out 140 kilowatts (187 horsepower) and 331 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful than the electric motor of the previous model.

Both the 4 and 4S will be in fully motorized e-power mode at start-up. According to Porsche, as soon as the battery's state of charge falls below a certain minimum value, the system automatically switches to hybrid automatic mode, which manages the powertrain according to the current driving situation. The intelligent navigation system sends route information to the vehicle, and the hybrid automatic mode processes this information to:"Optimize powertrain strategies"。For example, when driving in the city, the drive mode can be optimized to reduce energy consumption.

Two other drive modes -"e-hold"with"e-charge"It also has unique advantages. In"e-hold"mode, the battery's current state of charge remains unchanged. In electric charging mode, the internal combustion engine charges the battery to 80% at speeds above 34 mph.

In"Exercise"with"Exercise enhancement"mode, the battery's target state of charge is reduced to 20% and 30% (previously 30% and 80%), respectively, in the hope of extending battery life without sacrificing performance.

Porsche has been in the limelight lately, announcing the all-electric Macan and the new Taycan with ultra-fast charging. However, as EV sales fall back, the automaker is hedging its risk by expanding the number of hybrid models.

Porsche has been involved in the hybrid sector for more than 10 years, with the plug-in hybrid versions of the Cayenne and Panamera, as well as the non-plug-in hybrid versions of the Panamera and Cayenne.
