On the 26th local time in Barcelona, Spain, China Mobile announced at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC2024) that it will launch a 5G-A commercial plan, and will launch the world's largest 5G-A commercial deployment in more than 300 cities in 2024, continuing to release the potential of 5G.
5G-A (5G-Advanced) is the evolution and enhancement of 5G networks. At present, the global commercial use of 5G-A is accelerating. The Middle East has taken the lead in achieving large-scale commercial use of 5G-A, and operators in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and other regions are actively verifying 10Gbps capabilities to prepare for 5G-A commercial use in 2024.
5G-A is one of the hot spots of this MWC. According to China Mobile, China Mobile will realize the large-scale commercial use of RedCap and three-carrier aggregation in 2024, and comprehensively promote the trial commercial deployment of five major technologies: synaesthesia, passive Internet of Things, network intelligence, XR enhancement, and industrial Internet.
Compared with 5G, 5G-A will be 10 times more capable in terms of bandwidth and speed, and will provide more and richer communication products and services, such as 5G new calls, cloud phones, cloud computers, etc., and continue to create innovative products such as VR, glasses-free 3D, and the metaverse. And it can be adapted, including mobile phones, PCs, XR, watches and other pan-terminals.
Communications equipment manufacturers are also ready for the commercial use of 5G-A. According to Huawei's MWC2024 presentation, to date, Huawei has helped carrier customers launch 5G-A commercial verification and testing in more than 20 cities around the world. In the Middle East, 5G-A has become an industry consensus, and all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have completed 5G-A 10Gbps rate verification and new business incubation such as RedCap and Passive IoT.
