Texas, USAStateAustin, 202yearsmonth22nd-- Cirrus Logic (NASDAQ**:CRUS) today announced a collaboration with Intel and Microsoft on a new PC reference design. The design will feature Cirrus Logic's high-performance audio and power technologies as well as Intel's upcoming client processors for Lunar Lake. In addition to creating a richer, more immersive audio experience for laptops, the collaboration will reduce heat generation, extend battery life, and enable smaller, thinner and lighter designs.
The reference design features Cirrus Logic's CP9314 high-efficiency power converter, the low-power CS42L43 SmartHiFi audio codec, and the CS35L56 smart audio amplifier. Cirrus Logic's CP9314 high-efficiency power converter is based on switched-capacitor technology that helps reduce heat generation, extend battery life, and enable smaller, thinner industrial designs with low fan noise. In addition, the smart audio amplifier provides powerful and clear speaker audio, while the audio codec enables transparent headphone audio with up to 50% lower power consumption compared to traditional HD-A codecs.
For more than three decades, Cirrus Logic has been bringing professional-grade audio performance to battery-powered applications such as portables, smartphones, headsets, virtual reality, and more. The low-power CS42L43 SmartHiFi audio codec continues this legacy by delivering the highest usable audio performance and longest battery life, as well as smart features specifically designed to reduce the overall size and cost of audio systems to power PC OEMs.
"Cirrus Logic is bringing value to the PC market with its immersive audio and efficient power conversion solutions," said Carl Alberty, vice president of the Mixed-Signal Products Group at Cirrus Logic. Previously, our collaboration with Intel and Microsoft only included our audio devices, but now we have added our power conversion products. We're excited to help our customers elevate the consumer experience by creating laptops that sound great and design that is stylish, quiet, and energy-efficient." ”
Ken McKee, vice president and general manager of Customer Engineering at Intel's Customer Computer Group, said, "Intel is committed to accelerating every aspect of the PC experience. Companies like Cirrus Logic help us achieve this vision by innovating at scale. This collaboration enhances the PC experience, bringing additional benefits to the entire industry and individual consumers. ”
A higher level of audio
Historically, Cirrus Logic has delivered more than 5 billion amplifiers to five of the top 10 smartphone manufacturers and four of the top five PC OEMs. Cirrus Logic's top-tier expertise spans decades and contributes to a wide range of audio applications in the professional audio, PC and smartphone markets.
The new reference design will extend Cirrus Logic's best-in-class audio experience to more PCs. These performance and fidelity benefits extend to headphone and speaker modes for louder, deeper bass, clearer speech, lower distortion, and more. Cirrus Logic's patented noise limiting algorithm reduces the noise and vibration generated when mechanical components vibrate, resulting in a quieter, higher-fidelity user experience.
Audio design helps the industry transition to the new SoundWire interface and Microsoft's ACX framework, which scales across different processor, speaker, and laptop designs, making it easy for OEMs to create high-performance audio subsystems that can easily scale channel counts and capabilities. The design also features built-in security features designed to minimize unauthorized access to sensitive microphone speaker data and supports next-generation features such as spatial audio for a more realistic and engaging audio experience.
Longer battery life
The benefits of Cirrus Logic's power and audio technology extend to the device battery, and this new reference design delivers longer battery life. This PC-optimized solution results in lower design costs and less waste, as it reduces power consumption, reduces board space, and requires fewer components. The end result is a smaller, thinner laptop with a more durable battery.
