BAE acquires British drone manufacturer Malloy

Aerospace and defense company BAE Systems has acquired quadcopter maker Malloy, according to Aerospace Test Network Feb. 5**.

UK-based malloy aeronautics designs and designs electric drones primarily used in defence applications. The company offers a range of drones capable of lifting payloads from 68 kg to 300 kg (150 to 660 lbs) over short to medium distances, the so-called last-mile logistics.

Founded in 2013 with around 80 employees, Malloy will continue to operate at its facility in Berkshire, UK. The company will be part of BAE's FalconWorks R&D business unit.

BAE and Malloy have been working together on drone projects since 2021. For example, last year two companies demonstrated the T-600. A drone the size of a small car, capable of carrying a payload of up to 200 kg (440 lb).

Engineers from both companies have also been working together to develop the T-300 drone, which can carry a payload of 650 kilograms, as a potential new solution to provide military, security, and civilian customers with a cost-effective, sustainable rapid response capability.

"This new initiative in partnership with BAE Systems will allow us to combine the strengths and vision of a young company with the reach and support of an experienced company, ultimately providing our customers with the ability to meet their needs and enable us to quickly deliver innovative new products, including the T-650," said Oriol Badia, COO of Malloy Aeronautics. ”
