After I climbed Mount Everest for the third time in 2013, I was confused when I saw the sun rise. Everyone thinks that the higher you climb, the farther you can see, but that's not the case.
When you really climbed the highest peak in the world, you couldn't see anything in the world, why? More than 7,000 meters, 8,000 meters are full of clouds, and you only see a blankness, which is a kind of confusion about climbing. Many of the sentimental poems of the ancients were written after ascending to the heights.
What is the reason? Because after ascending you will have a kind of confusion about life, doubts about existence. I remember when I saw the mountains after the morning sun rose, an unexpected thought came to me, which was to jump. I involuntarily grabbed the rope, otherwise I would have flown down.
When you suddenly change your circumstances, you reach the highest point, and you have that kind of doubt and fear of existence. So after a person becomes the richest man, I guess there is also a kind of fear, and I don't have this fear. The realm pursued by entrepreneurs: poor and happy, rich and courteous. But it's a thing of the times. What is the sadness for me right now? The concept of a real entrepreneur in China should only exist now. Who were our earliest merchants? I once looked at Nan Confucius' family temple in Quzhou, where a 75-year-old professor, the 75th generation of Nan Confucius, was waiting for me, and we discussed a question after we met.
I said that I was actually visiting the 75th generation of Confucius' descendants as a businessman today, but the first person to accompany Confucius was the merchant Zigong. What was the concept of doing business at that time? It was the concept of entrepreneurship that was later talked about by European economists in the 16th century, and he counted this worker, artist, farmer, and merchant as entrepreneurs. What this entrepreneur means is that you identify a**, buy something, and then sell it for an uncertain **. This is what Zigong did, because he later tried his best to learn from Confucius, and what he learned was not a way to make money, but a way to be a man.
Zigong asked Confucius one day, saying that I have now achieved "poverty without flattery, rich without arrogance", is it very good? Confucius thought for a long time and told him, this is not enough, you also have to be poor and happy, rich and courteous. This is the real Confucian merchant.
How many of us can do it now? Including me, we can only be rich and not arrogant, and that's remarkable.
The so-called first generation of entrepreneurs is our "92 faction". This is how China has opened the door, and for people like me, society has given unlimited possibilities again, created opportunities that never existed before, and shaped the entrepreneurial spirit.
Once a group of entrepreneurs who had our birthday in June, including Liu Chuanzhi and Liu Yonghao, we celebrated our birthday collectively, and many people came to the birthday party. But I found a problem, everyone talked about the past, and they all talked about what they had gotten. Liu Yonghao was particularly proud and said: "Thank you so much for this era, otherwise I would be a pig farmer, and what we get now far exceeds our expectations." "When I was on the edge of the Yellow River, my first thought was to buy a bunch of apples and eat them whenever I wanted.
But now that I think about this generation, it's really, not talking about wealth, it's about what I've gotten, what I've gotten is a spirit, a culture, a sense of being. This is particularly remarkable, that is, a group of businessmen to entrepreneurs, from entrepreneurs to find the spirit of memory. This wealth is remarkable. Whether he succeeds or fails, whether he lives to be 80 or 60 years old, he is particularly fulfilled because he is grateful for this era, and he feels that he has not been left behind by this era.
So in that sense, I'm a little sad. The next era is for young people. Give me another 30 years, and I'm going to work hard with you.
