Some time ago, I watched a case of mother murder that occurred in the Tohoku region. The cause of that case was that the child did not have good academic performance, was usually addicted to games, and repeatedly skipped class, and her parents sent her to an Internet addiction school in order to discipline her. In order to leave the school for Internet addiction as soon as possible, this child did well at first, and later did leave there. But soon after, he had another conflict with his mother, so he tied her up and beat her with a drying rack and other things, which lasted for about a day, and she was not given food during this time. By the time I found out something was wrong, my mother was dead.
Nationwide, there are not many cases of such parental killings. Wu Xie Yu was able to get so much attention, and the most important thing was the strong contrast between his identity as a Peking University student and his identity as a suspect in killing his mother. But if you trace back to the roots, in fact, whether you can be admitted to Peking University is not directly related to the success of your parents' education. Because in reality, it is true that the ordinary 985 test can be piled up by piling up resources, but being admitted to Qingbei - that is, almost to the top 1% or even 1 among peers - depends largely on the talent in learning and exams. Nor can it be taught by education.
If Wu Xieyu's admission to Peking University is not regarded as a sign of "educational success", then the next question is, after taking away the evaluation criterion of grades, what else can be used as a judge of educational success?
When it comes to education today, the first thing that many people think of or default to is school education, and many people will push all the educational tasks to the school. But in fact, the main job of the school is to teach the knowledge in the textbook, and the evaluation dimension of grades is too simple. At the same time, what kind of education a person can receive is also largely affected by external factors. For example, when I was in college, some of my classmates were children of faculty and staff at the university. One of the most important reasons why they were admitted to our university was that as the children of faculty and staff, they had always attended the primary school and middle school attached to our university, which was one of the best primary and secondary schools in the province when I was in school.
But in college, I found that most of the children of these faculty and staff who grew up in prestigious schools did not show the qualities that others expected. And a considerable number of them can be said to have inferior character. On the other hand, whether it is with my relatives or in the process of shooting works and social research in other parts of China, I have also seen many cases where parents and children are optimistic and cheerful and friendly to others, although their family background is average or even poor. These people may not be able to reach the starting point of my classmates in their lifetime because they live in relatively backward and remote places, but I still think that the education of these families is far better than that of those professors.
The college entrance examination screens not scum, but scum", not so much because of how much school education plays a role, but because of the role played by the school itself. I also saw an article in the "Chinese Youth Study" before, which made a statistical analysis of the data on the juvenile crime rate in China over the past two or three decades. After comparing the parameters, the authors concluded that the single data with the greatest positive correlation with juvenile delinquency rates was high school enrollment. That is to say, the reason why many young people commit crimes is because they are thrown directly into society after graduating from elementary and junior high school, and at this time they are only fourteen or fifteen years old, and their minds are far from mature, and they are very easy to be bewitched by various factors and go to the road of breaking the law and committing crimes. High school education, on the other hand, lasts only three years, but it allows young people to complete adulthood and is less affected by social disadvantages.
I haven't seen any follow-up research data on whether college graduates have a lower crime rate than high school graduates, but I guess it's possible. Basically, after graduating from university, the understanding of society at the age of 22 or 3 will be higher than that of the 14 or 5 years old. As a result, the crime rate among college students and graduates of elite schools is lower, and it is more likely that it is also due to the environment created by the school itself.
Speaking of Wu Xie Yu himself, under the general environment of less killing and careful killing in my country, Wu Xie Yu was sentenced to death because of the superposition of various factors such as killing his mother and absconding, and the nature can be said to be extremely bad. Whether in reality or on Zhihu, the atmosphere of academic worship is not small, and students from prestigious schools are always easy to be endowed with various halos. This aura is not only reflected in IQ and character, but also runs through various levels such as academics and career planning. But when a person really reaches a certain age and has more contact with graduates of prestigious schools, he will find that although there is a difference in academic performance between students from prestigious schools and ordinary school students, there is not much difference in psychological problems - in the final analysis, everyone has grown up in the school environment from childhood to adulthood, and the environment they face is basically the same, and the psychological model they have developed is basically the same. The confusion, difficulty, depression and anxiety of ordinary school students are the same as those of students from prestigious schools, but there will be differences (for example, ordinary school students are entangled in whether to take the 211 study, while students in prestigious schools are entangled in whether to study abroad as a graduate student in Baoben University).
It is true that the competition in today's society is very fierce, and better academic performance means that you are likely to go to a good school and get a better job. However, the improvement of academic performance depends more on the school, and life itself is not only about grades. Among the children of relatives and acquaintances I mentioned earlier, there are many children who have poor academic performance but have a very good mentality, and their work income is average (and some have a good income) but they are very optimistic about life, and they can easily resolve setbacks. On the contrary, many students from many schools have a variety of psychological problems, and they will fall into long-term internal friction because of job hunting, work, income and other problems after graduation, and their income and personal living conditions are much worse than those ordinary people
It is far more important for children to live a healthy life – both physically and mentally – than chickens. But in today's social mood, the increasing intensity of chicken babies may lead to more vicious cases like this – and in this regard, the neighboring countries of Japan and South Korea are good examples.
I don't know if Wu Xieyu's case will be adapted into a film and television drama one day in the future. If possible, I hope to shoot it, which can be regarded as a little wake-up call to the era of chicken babies.
