Japan s Enoshima reminiscences

Mondo Tourism Updated on 2024-02-01

Mr. Zhang, who arrived in Tokyo, Japan, yesterday, was an old acquaintance of the embassy, and we were invited by Japanese NGOs to set foot on Enoshima near Tokyo. I remember that experience vividly.

Tokyo Airport, JapanOn the way to the hotel, the author and Mr. Zhang reminisced about the past. It was early winter in Tokyo more than ten years ago, and the sky was blue and the sun was clear, but when the wind was blowing, it was not an exaggeration to wear a down jacket. We took a train from Shinjuku, Tokyo to Enoshima.

From Shinjuku, Tokyo to Enoshima By train As soon as we got off the train, we were greeted quietly by a clear sea breeze and the platform of Enoshima in front of us. The ocean, too, awaits us not far away. The Prussian blue sea rises and falls in the wind, like a huge curtain lifted by the wind, and like a long flowing skirt of a dancing girl. Enoshima, located at the end of a 100-meter-long jetty bridge, is clearly visible from the tall trees on the island and the sea candle lighthouse on the top of the mountain.

A clear sea breeze blows in our faces As we stepped onto the pier, the silence was broken by the exclamations of some children playing beside us: "Look, mountain! "In the distance, where the sea and the sky meet, Mt. Fuji rises majestically, and the summit of the mountain is covered with a layer of milky snow. I can't help but recall the waka of the Japanese poet Akato Yamabe during the Manyo period: "Looking out at the Tako Bay, on the white high mountains of Fuji, the snow is flying. For the Japanese, mountains are not about climbing, but about respecting. Mt. Fuji has been a belief of the Japanese people for thousands of years.

Overlooking Mt. Fuji in the distanceEnoshima has been a favorite of Japanese people since the Edo period in 1603. The stone steps on the island led us up the hill.

Although the mountains are not high, the forests are deep, and you can hear the melodious chirping of birds along the way. The shrine on the island was originally dedicated to the gods who blessed fishing and maritime transportation, and later became a symbol of the god of **, wealth and good luck. Among them, the god of debate is particularly well-known and has been worshipped by entertainers since the Edo period. Visitors religiously light incense offerings in front of the shrine, and the green smoke curls and flutters in the wind. It is said that if a part of the body is bathed in the smoke of the shrine, the disease in that part of the body will be eliminated.

Japan is truly a country of pietyJapan is truly a country of piety, and there are many temples everywhere you go. The bronze Buddha looks unusually good under the blue sky and white clouds.

Yes, I use the word "good-looking, not solemn". This is similar to the white Buddha statue in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Later, this scene appeared in the movie "Kamakura Monogatari" directed by Takashi Yamazaki and starring Masato Sakai. I have to admit that when I watched this movie, my eyes were moist, and I would never have imagined that that day would be so far away. Only cherish all the happiness you have now and enjoy it with all your might.

Although the mountains are not high, the forests are deepTen minutes later, we reached the top of the mountain. The view suddenly widened, and a white lighthouse towered into the sky.

Viewed from above, surrounded by the sea, the ships on the coastline are neatly arranged, and the sailboats in the sea are like white flowers, undulating in the sea breeze. Looking up at the sky, seabirds soar in the blue sky. The sea breeze in my ears seems to tell the story of hundreds of years ago: a kabuki dressed in a plain kimono and stepping on clogs stands on the top of a mountain, facing the same sea breeze and looking so picturesque.

Seabirds soar in the blue skyAt that time, Enoshima had a mix of traditional and modern design, with shops, inns, and restaurants everywhere, and there were many tourist attractions.

Walk up the first step to visit the Iwaya Caves on Enoshima, two caves formed by natural erosion and a favorite place of the shogun, Minamoto Yoritomo (1147-1199). There are also legends about flying dragons in the cave, and a statue of a dragon is enshrined in the second cave. In addition, Enoshima Onsen is also a popular spot for tourists.

Traditional & Modern Design The sea breeze blows in the evening. We are still in Enoshima, high above the observation tower, overlooking the sea and the city. The sea surface is transformed into a rich night sky, the lights are like stars, I stand above the starry night, this wind blows for me, this scene is placed for me. The world is so lovely, I am so lovely. At the end of the view, enjoy the food stalls by the sea at the foot of the mountain.

The next day, we took the Enoden train to Kamakura. Outside the car window, Japanese houses are scattered, with the occasional orange tree passing by, and the golden fruits are still nostalgic for the aftertaste of autumn.

The train travels slowly along the coastline, and the waves gently lap against the shore. In a trance, I felt like I was on the Sri Lankan seaside train again, with the cool water as far as I could reach. I was sitting in a mountain car in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, and the sea breeze in my ears was like a mountain breeze.

The small train slowly travels along the coastlineIn the twilight of dusk, we walked through the streets of Kamakura. I came across a bookstore on the street corner, and the decoration of the store was very ordinary, with only one big word "book".

When I entered the bookstore, I found a small room with a rich collection of books. Books published by Iwanami Shoten, a 100-year-old bookstore, are placed at the entrance. "The Tale of Genji", "Pillow Grass" and Haruki Murakami's writings are also eye-catching. From time to time, people bring children into the bookstore. A woman in her twilight years, the owner of a bookstore, quietly arranges her books. When someone buys a book, as long as they press the bell on the table, the old woman slowly raises her head to collect the money, and the book buyer and the old woman smile and bow to each other in thanks.

Found a small room but with a rich collection of booksThe Japanese should be a people who love to read. In the modern world of mobile phones, only in the Japanese subway can you see people enjoying reading a book, even during the crowded commute time.

On the subway back to Tokyo, four of the more than 20 people we sat in were studying. The middle-aged lady sitting next to me was holding a paper book in her hands and reading it with relish, and when she looked closely, the book was still wrapped in the book cover, which showed her love for books.

Enjoy a food stall by the sea at the foot of the mountain A passenger in the carriage tells an old local story, saying, "There is a moving legend about the original formation of the island in Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei. Legend has it that once upon a time, a large lake was located within a radius of 40 miles around Tsumura Township, Kamakura Prefecture, and a five-headed dragon lived in the lake. It caused landslides and cracks, epidemics of disease, floods and typhoons. People could not stop its evil deeds, and as a result the village was deserted. Therefore, the formation of the sub-death of the Ko (now the waist of the other side of Enoshima).

A beautiful fairy appeared in the clouds ** One day in the 13th year of Qinming, suddenly the sea was covered with dark clouds, and the sky was shaken. A beautiful fairy appeared in the clouds, and then suddenly an island floated on the surface of the sea. The evil dragon fell in love with the fairy at first sight, and immediately promised not to do evil again, and proposed to the fairy to marry her. Because of its unremitting efforts, it continued to do good deeds, and finally married the fairy. Since then, the five-headed dragon has worked with the gods to transform the island and protect the people who live here. And legend has it that the dragon is the incarnation of Bencaiten. Even Tokugawa Ieyasu once came to pay homage. During the Edo period, it became one of the tourist destinations of Edo (present-day Tokyo). And because of Ben Caiten's talent, it has always been a resort for Kabuki actors.

Town style Because of such a beautiful legend, there are many natural dragon-related attractions on the island, including the Dragon Palace, the Dragon Cave, etc. Even in the 8th year of Heisei (1996), the "Love Bell" engraved with the love and vows of 3,481 pairs of lovers was cast on the island, and it became a new attraction on the island. Do you also want to try to face the endless sea and ring the love bell with your beloved? ”

A gentle drizzle fellAt night, looking out of the car window, a drizzle of rain fell, like snow but not snow. In the swaying of the carriage, I was a little sleepy, and in the chaos, I heard Kobayashi Ichcha's haiku again:

I'm here, I'm here, the snow is falling.

Modern Pu Ru's "Jiangzhidao Stone Cave Inscription Wall".

The mountains are lonely and the clouds are connected, and the wind and tide are rising and the waves are leaning against the sky.

The east ring of the three islands is blue sea, and Kyushu looks south but is smoky.

Given the day of Chu Ke's landing, the year of the Qin Emperor's medicine collection in the star era.

The moon and the fairy of the ancient cave have gone, and the stack of horizontal stone walls is full of grass.
