In 1960, the PLA North Sea Fleet was formally established, which was established on the basis of the Navy's Lushun base and Qingdao base. Lieutenant General Liu Changyi served as the first commander, and Lieutenant General Ding Qiusheng served as the first political commissar.
Interestingly, the son of Vice Admiral Ding Qiusheng was equally impressive, and he also served as commander of the North Sea Fleet.
Ding Qiusheng participated in the Anyuan Road Mine Strike in his early years, and since then he has devoted himself to the revolution. During the Agrarian Revolution, he joined the Red Army, served in the Red Third Army Corps, participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" battle in the ** base area with *** and others, and participated in the arduous Long March in October 1934.
It is worth mentioning that during the Long March, Ding Qiusheng also gave a good horse that he carefully bred to *** This horse was captured during the previous battle with the Kuomintang, it was a jujube red horse, bright in color, and very robust.
Ding Qiusheng has a soft spot for this horse and takes care of it carefully. During the Long March, ** praised the "good horse" again and again after seeing this horse, and Ding Qiusheng also knew that ** had heavy documents, so he gave the horse to *** for him to load documents.
** I am very grateful to Ding Qiusheng, this horse also played a huge role in the subsequent Long March.
General Ding Qiusheng was not only awarded the rank of lieutenant general in the early days of the founding of New China and became the founding lieutenant general, but his son Ding Yiping also followed in his footsteps, joined the navy, and rose all the way in the North Sea Fleet, from a grassroots soldier to the commander of the North Sea Fleet, and was also awarded the rank of vice admiral.
Both father and son are lieutenant generals of the country and have made outstanding contributions to our national defense.
During his tenure in the North Sea Fleet, General Ding Yiping was administratively demoted due to a mechanical failure of the No. 361 submarine that resulted in the death of 70 officers and men. After the incident, Ding Yiping was identified as the main person responsible.
Although his military rank remained that of Vice Admiral, he was demoted from a deputy cadre of the Grand Military Region to a regular officer on 16 April 2003.
In 2006, Ding Yiping was once again appreciated by his superiors and was promoted to deputy commander of the navy, and at the same time concurrently served as chief of staff of the navy, reinstating his previous administrative rank.
After that, Ding Yiping served as deputy commander of the Navy for a total of eight years until 2014, when he retired due to age and left the army. It is worth mentioning that both Ding Qiusheng and Ding Yiping are very keen on charity, and the father and son have also created a good story of relaying sponsorship of the same girl.
In his later years, Ding Qiusheng sponsored a little girl who was abandoned by her parents, this little girl was from Zaozhuang, Shandong, her parents had patriarchal thoughts, and the little girl's situation was very miserable.
After Ding Qiusheng learned about the little girl's situation, he took the initiative to form a help object with her and sponsored the little girl to go to school.
In 1995, Ding Qiusheng, the founding lieutenant general, died of illness at the age of 82. At the end of his life, he was still concerned about a little girl who was unable to pursue her own education due to poverty.
Ding Yiping took over this funding task, and in order to fulfill Ding Qiusheng's wish, he sponsored the little girl to study for eight consecutive years until she was able to earn a living independently. This story teaches us that love can be transmitted, and as long as we persevere, we will definitely be able to help those in need.
