As the Adidas samba series continues to be popular overall, it has received another new look – with an increased size of the stripe and tongue logo, opening a new variant of the main one.
Titled "Oversized Logo", the intention of this sneaker is very clear. The three stripes inside the shoe and the product logo are magnified at least twice. To emphasize these design features, the color palette of this version relies on its history, with a white and blue sole layout that has appeared many times before.
Although the refreshed product image doesn't detract from the standard assets that Samba continues to have, it does have a modern feel to it. This is a step they've at least tried before, and the adidas Samba XLG takes into account most, if not all, of the model's elements. Here, zoom is a more discerning way.
Crucially, the collection can be read as a response to Nike's willingness to reuse the Swoosh logo on their shoes, flipping, detaching, spinning, and modifying their own logo in every possible way. In this case, the move Adidas has made here may not be entirely transformative, but changing the layout of something as traditional as samba still deserves headlines.
