GENEVA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently released a report saying that global air travel demand will continue to recover in 2023 in terms of revenue passenger kilometres, and the total air passenger traffic will further approach the pre-pandemic level.
According to data released by the International Air Transport Association, the total number of global air passengers in 2023 increased by 36% year-on-year9%, recovering to 94 percent of 2019 levels1%;In December last year, global air passenger traffic increased by 25% year-on-year3%。
The data also shows that global international passenger traffic increased by 41% year-on-year in 20236%, reaching 886%。Among them, Asia-Pacific airlines saw the strongest growth in international passenger traffic, with a year-on-year increase of 1261%。Global domestic passenger traffic increased by 30% year-on-year in 20234%, 3 percent higher than 2019 levels9%。
IATA President Willie Walsh said that the strong recovery in global air passenger traffic last year has laid the foundation for airlines to return to normal growth this year. The recovery in tourism will further benefit the aviation industry and provide a boost to global economic growth.
The data also shows that global air cargo demand in 2023 will decline by 1 year-on-year in terms of freight tonne-kilometres9%, 3 below 2019 levels6%;In terms of available cargo tonne-kilometres, global air cargo capacity increased by 11 year-on-year in 20233%。
