The Big Tree Teacher Program, initiated by the Free Lunch Project, allows us to see the responsibility and perseverance of rural teachers, witness the changes in rural schools, and understand the story of rural education through the big tree teachers who are rooted in the countryside. Today, we will take a look at the story of Mr. Yang Guohui, the big tree teacher of Jieluqiao Central Primary School in Lingling District, Yongzhou, Hunan!
Before the official opening of our school, my fate with free lunch began. My wife, who teaches at a free lunch school, used her own experience to subvert my original perception that "there is no free lunch in the world".
In September 2022, I was transferred to Jieluqiao Central Primary School, when the school was applying for and preparing for the free lunch program, and on March 9, 2023, the school officially opened the meal after all aspects of review, and a total of 309 people ate last semester.
Currently, I am in charge of logistics during the implementation of the free lunch project in the school, and my main task is to procure ingredients and manage the canteen. According to the school's philosophy and the requirements of the free lunch program, our ingredients should be fresh and healthy, taking the purchase of fruits as an example, we purchase fruits that can be distributed individually and completely, such as bananas, oranges, etc., to avoid hygiene problems during the cutting process.
All of our ingredients were purchased on the same day, and the school deliberately did not arrange for me to be the first in the morning.
The first and second classes are convenient for me to purchase ingredients, and after the purchase is completed, I have to sort out the documents in my spare time, and the time is still relatively tight overall.
The free lunch project can be successfully opened in the school, which is inseparable from the efforts of every teacher, who work together to do a good job of the free lunch project, so that the children can eat well, busy but also fulfilling.
Our school also used to provide lunch, but the dishes are relatively simple, for families with more difficult economic conditions, the cost of children's lunch is also a lot of expenses, five or six yuan for a meal, a semester is close to 100 days, and it also takes several hundred yuan.
With the help of free lunch**, the financial burden on children's lunch is reduced, and parents may invest more in other aspects of education, such as school supplies and learning materials, which will help improve children's academic performance and develop extracurricular activities.
In addition to living conditions and studies, I am also concerned about the mental health of my students. Most of the children in rural schools are left-behind children, and due to the family environment, many children are more introverted and are not good at expressing their ideas and needs.
There is a child I am very impressed, he is actually very kind in his heart, but due to some complicated situations at home left a shadow on him, this child's personality is more withdrawn, often with classmates conflicts, later I learned about his family situation, listened to his thoughts and feelings, he also slowly opened his heart, under the protection and encouragement of the teachers, he also changed a lot, and now often talk to me, talk about his ideas.
The free lunch project not only provides children with a hot lunch, but more importantly, creates a kind atmosphere, and the goodwill of all walks of life is transmitted to the school through the network and to the students through the teachers. The children also feel that there are so many caring people in the society who care for and pay attention to them, in my opinion, it can enhance the children's self-esteem and self-confidence, let them know the beauty of the society, and face life more optimistically and positively.
We build our canteen culture around the four aspects of cherishing food, civilized dining, CD-ROM action and safety first, so as to establish a correct concept of food for children.
In December last year, our school carried out a CD-ROM evaluation action, selected young volunteers from the Young Pioneers in the upper grades, scored the dining situation of each class, weighed and recorded the food scraps of each class, and finally rewarded the top two classes in the overall performance of the month, and strengthened the education of the poor performance classes.
At the same time, we also held class meetings to educate the children on food conservation and good eating habits, and encouraged all grades to make creative posters about food conservation, and the children were very active in the activities, and finally we hung up our excellent works in the cafeteria.
I recorded these activities and the daily life of the children with **, which is also a new attempt I have carried out after being trained by Teacher Dashu.
I didn't use ** to record the relevant experience before, although the training of Mr. Dashu was only a few days, but I benefited a lot and broadened my thinking.
The significance of our use of images to record and disseminate these moments may be to let more people see what our rural schools look like, such as how the food is eaten, the learning environment, and the state of the students in the school. Especially our free lunch program, I think it's a positive energy, and we have implemented it. Through the spread of **, we also want more people to understand and participate, and add a care to the children in the countryside.
That's the end of Mr. Yang Guohui's story, he guards the healthy growth of children with a sense of responsibility, and helps rural revitalization and rural education together with free lunch. Mr. Big Tree's story is not over yet, see you in the next issue!
