15-5PH stainless steel is a martensitic, precipitation-hardening chromium-nickel-copper stainless steel that is favored for its excellent surface smoothness and dimensional stability. After careful processing, its mechanical properties are excellent, and it can withstand general corrosive environments. Since the mid-nineties, this steel grade has been widely promoted and used.
The strength, toughness, and ductility of 15-5PH stainless steel perform well in the transverse direction, and its hardness and corrosion resistance are comparable to those of 304 stainless steel. Through heat treatment, 15-5PH can achieve a variety of desirable properties. Its chemical composition includes elements such as carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, nickel, chromium, copper, niobium, etc., and the proportional relationship of these elements is crucial to the performance of steel.
In terms of mechanical properties, 15-5PH has excellent tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and shrinkage. It also has a low hardness value, making it suitable for a wide range of manufacturing and molding processes. It is worth mentioning that 15-5PH can withstand high temperatures of 700 and even 750 under certain conditions.
In order to maintain its excellent heat treatment performance and service life, 15-5PH is usually treated with solid solution, that is, water quenching is carried out after holding heat for a certain period of time at a high temperature of more than 1000. In addition, it is necessary to select the appropriate aging temperature according to the operating temperature to ensure its optimal performance.
