On January 30, the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention and other six departments jointly issued the "Notice on Carrying out the Second Dose of Inactivated Polio Vaccine Catch-up Work for Relevant Populations". Children born between 1 March 2016 and 30 September 2019 who have received only one dose of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) will need a second dose of SIV to enhance their immune protection against poliovirus.

In recent years, polio outbreaks have occurred in many countries around the world, especially those caused by vaccine-derived poliovirus. Until the global polio eradication goal is finally achieved, China will continue to face the risk of poliovirus import and transmission as long as there is poliovirus transmission and epidemic in other countries and regions. In accordance with the polio-free work arrangement, we have decided to carry out this catch-up vaccination campaign.

All localities should actively promote the second dose of inactivated polio vaccine (PIV) for relevant populations, carry out a thorough survey of the population that should be vaccinated by inquiring into the case information and vaccination records of the immunization planning information system or vaccination cards (books), and adopt various methods to notify the guardians of the relevant populations; Do a good job in the formulation of vaccine use plans, vaccine procurement and management, reasonably arrange the work progress, and complete the target of the second dose of inactivated polio vaccine for the relevant population by June 30.

In addition, all localities should carry out supplementary vaccination in accordance with the "Norms for Vaccination Work" and the specific requirements for the second dose of inactivated polio vaccine for relevant populations, and record the vaccine variety, specification, batch number, and vaccination time in the vaccination certificate and card (book) in a timely manner after the supplementary vaccination, and promptly report it to the immunization planning information system, and provide traceability information to the national vaccine electronic traceability coordination platform in accordance with regulations.

Polio is an acute intestinal infection caused by poliovirus. At present, the immunization schedule of polio vaccine under the National Immunization Programme (2021 Edition) stipulates that a total of four doses of polio vaccine are administered, including one dose of inactivated polio vaccine at 2 months of age and one dose of inactivated polio vaccine at 3 months of age, and one dose of live attenuated bivalent polio vaccine at 4 months of age and 4 years of age.
