During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, there was social turmoil, many great powers, and constant disputes. It was a time of war, but it was also a great time, because the foundation of patriarchal rule began to crumble, and people at the bottom of society began to emerge and write their own history.
However, it is not easy to get from behind the scenes to the foreground, and it takes strength. There are two ways to gain strength: one is through genetics, and the other is through hard work.
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, due to the scarcity of the aristocratic class, it was difficult to change the fate of an individual, even if they had excellent genes. Therefore, ordinary people can only rely on acquired efforts if they want to be successful.
However, the path was not easy, and many people failed because of their struggles. And at this time, reading books is considered the most convenient way to success. Reading can change fate, and this principle is common throughout ancient and modern times.
However, before the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, reading was not a matter for ordinary people, because it was an official school monopolized by the aristocracy. However, the advent of Confucius changed this situation.
Confucius was not only one of the most learned people in society at the time, but also an advocate of private learning. His contributions have made education accessible to ordinary people, which has had an important impact on changing the fate of individuals.
As a result, Confucius is known as the "Most Holy Teacher of Dacheng" and is listed as the top ten celebrities in the world.
Confucius was not the initiator of private learning, but the private learning he founded was the largest and most far-reaching. His philosophy of teaching without class is still impressive. Although he was known as a master of culture, many people believed that he was a weak scholar and did not know martial arts.
However, Gu Xiaoming, a professor of history at Fudan University, came as a surprise when he pointed out that Confucius was not only skilled in martial arts, but also very high. Heredity has a huge impact on a person's stature, and if both parents are taller, then their children will not be shorter.
According to historical records, Confucius and his father were both big men.
Confucius's father, named Kong Su, the word Shu Liang, later people often called him Shu Liang Su, which is a kind of respect for him. Confucius was ten feet tall, while Confucius was nine feet six, which is obviously a merit inherited from Confucius.
However, the standards of ancient weights and measures were not consistent, so it is impossible to calculate exactly how many meters the ruler here is converted. In terms of height, Confucius's height has exceeded two meters, and in terms of lowness, it is almost about one meter nine.
Even if it is less, it will not be less than 1.8 meters. Because there was such a record in "Historical Records of the Family of Confucius": "Everyone was amazed by the tall man of Confucius."
Tall people were eye-catching in ancient times, because people at that time were undernourished and naturally short. Even now, a height of one meter** can make a person stand out from the crowd.
Does that tall person have to be heroic? A good example of this is Confucius, whose bravery was also passed on to Confucius, which will be discussed later. Although there are not many records about Kong Su's deeds in historical materials, we can see his heroic performance in "Zuo Biography".
It was twelve years before Confucius was born, and the Jin state led the state of Lu and other small states to attack the small barbarian states in the south. Kong Su also participated in this war, and when the coalition forces attacked the city, the enemy set a trap and pulled up the city gates.
When the vanguard entered, they immediately lowered the city wall and planned to catch turtles in the urn, seeing that the troops in the city were about to be eaten, Kong Su rushed forward alone, forcibly lifted the city gate, and then carried it on his shoulder, so that the soldiers in the city could escape.
How can a heroic father's son be a weak scholar? Although the secret of Confucius's subjugation of Zilu is not clearly recorded in the history books, we can see from a side story, that is, the process of Confucius's subjugation of Zilu.
Zilu was a brave warrior under Confucius, and despite his humble background, he mastered the art of martial arts, and in order to show his invincibility, he often wore a rooster-style hat and a sword decorated with boars.
In his belief, the sword in his hand is the last word, and if you want to convince him, you must first look at his sword. As a martial arts enthusiast, he often focused his attention on his goals, and he always looked down on the tall Confucius, believing that the other party was just a façade, so he offended and insulted Confucius many times.
So, how did Confucius succeed in subduing Zilu? There are many theories about this, but most people believe that it was Confucius who persuaded Zilu with his reasoning, moved Zilu with his emotions, made him realize the importance of etiquette, and then moved Zilu to cry bitterly, and finally worshiped Confucius as a teacher.
However, if you think about it, this possibility is very low, because if you want to subdue a person, you must first destroy what he is most proud of, so that he can be convinced from the bottom of his heart.
Zilu is proud of his martial arts, and if he wants to subdue him, he must defeat him in a competition. From this point of view, Confucius may have conquered Zilu by force, otherwise how could Zilu willingly follow Confucius and become his bodyguard when he traveled around the world?
The self-confidence of traveling around the worldConfucius traveled around the world, and it was a very dangerous thing, but he had the confidence to be able to deal with it. According to the Analects, he was "trapped in Kuang and miserable in Chen Cai", but he was not frustrated by this, but was able to deal with it calmly because he was confident.
The local people mistakenly thought that he was Yang Hu, and Yang Hu was a troublemaker who bullied Confucius in his early years.
King Wen is gone, but Wen Li is still in us. Heaven will destroy our civilization, so that the latter will not be able to participate in it; If the heavens do not destroy our civilization, what can the Kuang people do to me? ”
Confucius firmly believed that as long as the cultural traditions left by King Wen of Zhou were upheld, there was no need to fear any difficulties. His self-confidence stems from two aspects, one is his strong martial arts, and the other is his excellent running ability.
As Huainanzi said, Confucius was able to "tiptoe to the suburbs and recruit the city", and the "six arts" he advocated in education did not only focus on cultural education, but also his martial arts skills such as archery and driving.
There is no doubt that Confucius, as the proposer of the Six Arts, was proficient in these skills, otherwise how could he teach**? In that era when there was no clear division of disciplines, Confucius needed to personally demonstrate and teach**.
In addition, Confucius also mentioned in the "Book of Rites": "I fight and I will be blessed, and I will be blessed if I sacrifice", which shows that he has also dabbled in military strategy, which is also one of his self-confidence.
He was tall, fast, could drive vehicles, could shoot arrows, and was even proficient in military affairs, so he was undoubtedly a "martial arts master" at that time.
