There can be no doubt that human fear stems from the unscrupulous pursuit of desired ends. After the end of World War II, the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, carried out an incredible series of actions in order to avoid armed conflict. Whether it is flying in the sky, swimming in the sea, or traveling on the ground, they are all wrestling in secret.
However, even so, the battle between the two sides was not perfect. When the United States successfully landed on the moon, the Soviet Union felt unprecedented pressure. Unable to go beyond the realm of space, they decided to retreat instead.
The Soviet Union's underground retreat program was so fruitful that it was even rumored that they had planned to dig through the entire planet. But why did this ambitious plan come to an abrupt halt? Could it be that strange events happened during the excavation, and even the "screams" of the ground were heard? Or is there some other secret that no one knows?
Looking back at that era, the United States and the Soviet Union were both countries at the pinnacle of technology and capabilities. Despite two world wars, peace has become the more desirable option. However, during the Cold War, despite its appearance of peace, it was actually a dark war of technology and financial resources.
After the successful landing of the United States on the moon, the Soviet Union felt a heavy pressure. So, they set out to implement the plan of retreat, hoping to win in this field. This program, known as the "Kola Ultra-Deep Hole", was launched in the 1970s.
In this project, the Soviet Union fully demonstrated its strong economic and scientific and technological capabilities. They drilled a huge hole 12,262 meters deep and almost penetrated the earth's crust. However, this high-investment plan was abruptly halted, causing all kinds of speculation.
Some people say that strange events occurred during the excavation, and even the "wailing" of the underground was heard, which stopped the Soviet Union. It is also believed that there are other secret reasons. However, it was not until many years later that it was truly revealed why the Soviet Union had abandoned its 20-year-old burrow.
In fact, from the very beginning, the Soviet Union faced difficulties with the plan of retreat. From the initial self-developed equipment, to the later discovery that Swiss equipment had to be imported. At greater depths, Soviet experts found that the difficulty of escaping increased with depth. The search for methods of soft soil became useless, and mining equipment was almost inoperable on hard ground.
In 1979, the outbreak of war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan necessitated the decentralization of the economic chain. Investing resources into this bottomless pit is self-defeating. Although a large number of ** and diamond mines were found in the caves, they could not be mined due to the depth. For the USSR, these treasures were almost useless against high costs.
Although in the process of digging holes, the Soviets also discovered other valuable ores, but this was only a drop in the bucket for the Soviet Union's financial resources. Eventually, the Soviets realized that the plan was a wasteful waste and halted it.
History is not just a story, it is a warning for future generations to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. The bloodstains of this history are left by our ancestors, and they are the cornerstone of our brilliant success today. It is important to remember this history and not to act rashly, because it is our responsibility.
