Passionate about environmental science
Wu Zhan, a 68-year-old veteran party member, is a resident of Linjiang Homestead in Langshan Town, Chongchuan District, Nantong City. Living on the edge of the Yangtze River since childhood, the family has a deep affection for the Yangtze River. However, at one time, the harbor was full of cranes and wharves. There are logistics yards, cotton weaving factories, chemical plants, cement factories and so on along the river. Although the income of villagers along the river has increased, the pollution of wastewater, noise, dust, odor and other pollution brought about by industrialization has driven away the finless porpoise that Wu Zhan had common in his childhood, and the villagers have also felt helpless. In 2016, the general secretary set the general tone and premise for the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, that is, to "jointly grasp the great protection, not to engage in large-scale development". To this end, Wu Zhan was very excited, and began to use WeChat, "learning to strengthen the country" and other important speeches and relevant policies and regulations to firmly establish the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", and determined to do something for the cause of environmental protection.
Under the influence of Wu Zhan, his family studied and discussed with him, forming a good learning atmosphere.
Rooted in the eco-friendly family tradition
On November 12, 2020, the general secretary of Nantong Wushan Riverside Area visited the site and affirmed the achievements of ecological restoration and environmental remediation of the Yangtze River in Nantong. Wu Zhan was fortunate to listen to the general secretary's speech at the scene, and he was full of emotion, and he strengthened his determination to be an environmental protection volunteer and a disseminator of environmental protection concepts. No matter when and where, Wu Zhan always carries a garbage bag with him to dispose of the garbage he sees at any time. The daughter and son-in-law also followed in their father's footsteps and became volunteers for riverside ecological and environmental protection, and on weekends or holidays, they often came to the riverside with Wu Zhan to carry out environmental protection publicity and ecological protection work. Influenced by her elders, her granddaughter has also become a little environmental protection guard, frugal life, green travel, environmental care, and ecological protection have been internalized in the heart, externalized in the line, and infiltrated into the bits and pieces of life.
Inherit environmental protection and take responsibility
In 2021, the street of Langshan Town established an on-site teaching point for ecological restoration and protection of the Wushan Riverside by the river, and Wu Zhan was invited to become a docent and a veritable "environmental protection teacher". In the past two years, Wu Zhan has volunteered to preach environmental protection knowledge more than 20 times by the riverside, with an audience of more than 500 people. In order to let more people understand the vicissitudes of the Wushan Binjiang area and join the ecological protection team, Wu Zhan kept pace with the times, used new ** platforms such as ** account and WeChat *** to carry out online preaching, and felt the full happiness of living in the Wushan Binjiang area with nearly 10,000 people.
In addition to often going to the riverside with her grandfather and parents to do voluntary preaching and labor, the little granddaughter has always taken water and electricity saving, caring for flowers and plants as a personal code of action and good habits, and practicing the concept of environmental protection with practical actions.
For decades, Wu Zhan's family has practiced the concept of green environmental protection and actively promoted and appealed, hoping to use the strength of their own family to attract more and more people to join the cause of environmental protection and jointly protect the beautiful home and protect the "green waters and green mountains".
