Jiangxi Minsheng NewsOn the morning of February 4, Xiao Dongxiang, a forest ranger from Shangqing Town, Longhu Mountain Scenic Area, Yingtan City, saw a "blackbird" that had not been discovered before when he was squatting on the bank of the Luxi River to observe the Chinese mergansers. After consulting the expert opinions and comparison data of Beijing Forestry University, it was determined that this is the black stork, a national first-class protected animal, and it is the first time that the black stork has been found to winter in the Luxi River in the Longhu Mountain Scenic Area.

It is reported that the black stork is a migratory bird of the stork order, which is a national first-class protected wild animal, and the number is very small in the country, and it is known as the "giant panda among birds". The black stork has a red beak and red feet, a black back and a white belly, and has a well-developed sense of hearing and vision, and has high requirements for the habitat environment, and generally lives in areas with clear water quality, abundant food and less human interference.

In recent years, Yingtan Longhu Mountain Scenic Area has continued to increase ecological and environmental protection efforts, clarified that fishing is prohibited all year round in the Longhu Mountain Scenic Area of Luxi River, and in early 2008, 1,800 hectares of Chinese merganser duck reserve was demarcated. The good ecology of Longhu Mountain Scenic Area has not only attracted Chinese mergansers to winter here for 17 consecutive years, but also continues to attract new "visitors", and in 2023 alone, wild animals such as bean geese, field buntings, and red-headed pochard have been discovered.
