When I got the book, it looked old, and I looked at it impatiently, thinking that it was another ordinary book.
However, I was wrong.
When I flipped through it casually, I found that some of the ideas in the book are very intriguing, and the blessing of the psychological label of the book is very meaningful for the current state of spiritual life.
So, I took it seriously.
Adler was a prominent exponent in the field of psychology, a leading figure in his profession alongside Freud, and is mentioned several times in the book, albeit with different views. Some of Adler's views had a great influence on the later development of psychology, and many famous psychologists such as Albert and Maslow were influenced by it. In fact, Adler is considered one of the pioneers of humanistic psychology.
In the book, Adler expounds on the formation and development of personality from a unique perspective, and more intuitively understands how an individual's mental activities interact with his or her social environment. His concept of inferiority complex and transcendence made me realize that everyone has different degrees of inferiority complex, and this emotion is often the source of motivation for us to keep moving forward and pursue achievements. Not only does this explain why people show different coping strategies when faced with challenges, but it also provides me with a framework for understanding the behavior of others.
When it comes to the meaning of life and lifestyle, he believes that each person's behavior patterns and problem-solving methods are unique, and these patterns are formed from childhood and continue throughout the life course of an individual. This perspective made me realize that knowing a person's style of life can go a long way in their future behavior. This has important implications for counselors, educators, and even parents.
Especially the problem of inferiority and transcendence, Adler frankly admits that inferiority is a common emotion of human beings, but how to deal with this emotion determines our fate. Adler argues that transcending inferiority is not about eliminating inferiority, but about understanding and dealing with this emotion correctly. This made me realize that when we face low self-esteem, we cannot run away from it, but we should face it bravely and overcome it. Only when we truly understand and deal with this emotion can we truly transcend it and realize our own value. The autobiographical book written by Iron Man Musk's mother is a good illustration of this problem.
In last year's uproar over the "futility of journalism" incident, Adler said that career is not the only measure of a person's success. Everyone has their own values and missions, and only when we truly understand and explore our own potential can we find our own meaning in life.
The book also mentions the importance of social interests, which Adler believes are a key factor in the development of a healthy personality in individuals. I was very touched by that. In modern society, people seem to be increasingly distant, but Adler's theory reminds us that cultivating care and participation in society contributes to the mental health of individuals.
In the process of reading this book, I constantly compared my own experience with the behavior of the people around me, and found that many phenomena that were difficult to understand before have reasonable explanations. For example, why some people are resilient in the face of failure, while others are slumped; Why do some people seem helpful while others seem cold and selfish? Behind these phenomena, it is the personality that plays a role.
Of course, no theory is a panacea. Although Adler on Personality provides us with a valuable perspective on understanding human behavior, in practical application, we also need to combine the specific situation of the individual to comprehensively analyze. Everyone is unique, and we can't simply apply a theory to everyone.
It was the first time I came into contact with a psychology book, and after reading it, I felt like I was getting to know myself again. More importantly, it guides us to think about the meaning and value of life.
In the new year, let's work together to realize our dreams and values!
