Hungary 30: Hungary has been named the most corrupt country in the European Union for the second year in a row, according to a new report from Transparency International.
In the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report released yesterday, Hungary ranks at the bottom of the European Union, even behind Romania and Bulgaria.
Every year, Transparency International distributes a national corruption perception index. Hungary scored 42. 100 means "incorruptible", while 0 means highly corrupt. According to the report, Denmark tops the list with a score of 90 points. Also included in this category are China, Cuba, Moldova, North Macedonia, Trinidad and Tobago, and even Bahrain. At the same time, Timor-Leste, Senegal, Oman or Ghana are ahead of Hungary. In the CEE region, Romania scored 46 points and Bulgaria scored 45 points. In addition, Sofia's ranking has improved compared to last year. In the European Union, Denmark, Finland and Sweden top the list. This means that Hungary is once again the most corrupt country in the European Union. In addition, its overall score (42) has not changed compared to 2022. Hungary took the best position in the 2007 rankings, but has been declining ever since. In 2012, Hungary was the ninth most corrupt country in the European Union, according to Hungary**. In 2020, Hungary became the most corrupt country in the European Union, along with Romania and Bulgaria. In 2022, Hungary "overtaken" all EU member states, and in 2023 the situation has not changed.
