100% domestic 16-core CPU officially put into production, or will it replace Intel and AMD?

Since processors are one of the foundations of information technology and digitalization, we have always wanted to have a 100% domestic processor to replace Intel and AMD processors.

In fact, while there are many local processors, it would be correct to say that, with the exception of the Loongson processors, they are all 100% localized and self-managed, and there are not many of them.

Loongson has released a 100% self-developed LoongArch instruction set for 3A5000 series desktop processors and 3C5000 series server processors, which does not rely on external instruction sets and is gaining momentum.

Not long ago, Loongson launched the 3A6000 series, which also uses the 100% self-developed LoongArch instruction set.

The 3A6000 processor also reached the level of the 10th Gen Core i3 in terms of performance and the 13th Gen Core i3 in terms of IPC, but its overall performance was still poor and lagged behind Intel and AMD due to limitations in terms of process and other aspects and lower frequencies.

However, it also shows that the LoongArch instruction set has indeed been successful, and it is foreseeable that Loongson will continue to improve the design and increase the frequency based on the LoongArch instruction set in the future, and then catch up with Intel in the future.

Following the introduction of the 3A6000 series of desktop processors, Longmind is now focusing on server processors.

Loongson launched the latest generation of Loongson 3C6000 server processors some time ago: this 16-core, 32-thread chip is designed for servers and uses the self-developed LoongArch instruction set.

We don't know the specific performance, but as we can see from the 3A6000 series, the performance of this generation 3C6000 is not bad, because the 3A6000 is a quad-core eight-thread processor, while the performance of the 16-core 32-thread processor is very powerful, equivalent to four 3A6000.

In addition, server chips like the 3C6000 can be made into multi-core packages or multiprocessor clusters, where multiple processors can be combined to create 32-core, 64-core, or larger and more powerful processors.

In the past few years, the U.S. chip industry has dragged down China's increasingly powerful chip industry, especially in high-end artificial intelligence and server chips. The United States fears that we will surpass them in artificial intelligence and other technologies, so it urgently needs to replace domestic chips.

The launch of Loongson 3C6000 is of great significance to the domestic start-up industry, because it is a 100% autonomous, truly safe and controllable domestic processor.

The Loongson 3C6000 series is expected to be available in the first half of 2024 – by then, will it be the best alternative to Intel and AMD server chips?
