Thomas Ogilvie, Chief Human Resources Officer: "It's about being part of the community and working to make people's lives better".
BONN – DHL Group is calling on its employees to participate in the Global Volunteer Day (*D), now in its 15th year, with the main event taking place from 18 September to 1 October. The company celebrates this anniversary with employees around the globe and is building on past successes and commemorating the occasion with special events.
*D was first launched in Singapore in 2008 and has become a global initiative – DHL Group encourages employees to volunteer in non-profit projects in their countries and regions. Over the years, approximately 1.3 million volunteers have responded to the call and contributed more than 3.1 million volunteer hours in their home communities. In all divisions of the DHL Group, employee activities focus on environmental protection, disaster management, education and vocational training, refugee assistance, health and well-being, and social services. This makes **d an effective lever for team building and employee engagement.
As HR Thomas Ogilvie Board Member explains, "Connecting people and improving lives also means making a positive impact on the communities we operate and serve. That's why DHL Group encourages and supports Global Volunteer Day. We are proud of the positive impact of our employees, working alongside their **d projects. Since 2008, our employees have put in more than 3.1 million hours of volunteer work, with approximately 100,000 employees volunteering each year. For us, it's not just about being part of a team, it's about having a sense of belonging. It's about being part of the community and working to create a better life for the people and places around us. ”
On this 15th anniversary, "Follow the Sun" is the slogan of D 2023 and inspires the volunteers of the DHL Group. Over the course of 15 weeks, they worked on **d projects in 15 countries between the East and the West. These anniversaries are celebrated around the world, including New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Madagascar, Serbia, Uganda, Germany, the United Kingdom, Paraguay, Panama, Colombia, and the United States. Employees are free to choose the types of projects and activities they work on. The only requirement is that they are aligned with the focus areas that make up DHL Group's sustainability strategy. With its long-standing GoTeach, GoHelp, GoTrade and GoGreen initiatives, the company supports projects focused on climate protection, youth employability, disaster management, and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries*. Many of the projects have also received financial support from the Group's own Better Lives**.
