As the demand for pediatric care in North Texas grows, Children's Health of Texas and the University of Texas Southwestern have joined forces to build a new pediatric hospital in Dallas. With a total investment of $5 billion, a total construction area of about 420,000 square meters, and a planned bed capacity of 552, the project will become one of the largest and most advanced pediatric hospitals in the United States.

When the new pediatric hospital opens, the existing Dallas pediatric hospital will be fully relocated to the new hospital. The number of inpatients admitted to the hospital has increased by 38%, the emergency department space has increased by 15%, and the operating room space has increased by 22%. The new hospital includes a Level I pediatric trauma center with 90 emergency department examination rooms and 24 observation rooms. A neonatal care center that provides the most advanced and accessible services in the region for pregnant women and newborns. The plan also leaves room for expansion in view of the need for possible future expansion or additional services. In addition, the new hospital includes a 96-room outpatient building and a flyover to the University of Texas William P. Clemens University Hospital.
Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2024 and be operational within six to seven years.
