The first two books of the "Three-Body Problem" series, Once Upon a Time on Earth and the Dark Forest, I read it in one go. When it came to the third book of Death Eternal, I don't know if I was tired from watching it for too long, or I couldn't wait to know the ending, so I hurriedly flipped through and read a few chapters.
As a result, I learned about so many earth-shattering stupid things that Cheng Xin had done in these chapters and spoilers from online reviews, and I was so angry that my lungs hurt, and I couldn't stand it anymore, so I simply threw it away.
A while ago, because Netflix was going to launch the American drama version of the Three-Body Problem, I suddenly became interested again, so I picked up the third one. This time, I saw that I had a lot of patience last night, and I was so angry that I scolded Cheng Xin because of Cheng Xin's commotion
About the ending.
Some people think that Da Liu is ruthless, and the third part of the human race is almost wiped out. I used to think this was the case, but later I read the book and realized that it was not completely dark, and at the end the human race was still alive, but it had become an interstellar human. That is, the so-called first human beings who escaped on a starship and explored the universe in search of a new life.
And those hiding in the solar system of their hometown are indeed all hanging, except for Cheng Xin and Ai AA.
Even the same is true of the Trisolarans, although the regiments in their hometown have been wiped out, the Trisolarans who went out of the First Fleet are alive and well, and the civilization is still continuing until the universe returns to zero.
As the author, Da Liu was actually quite difficult when writing the third story with such a large time span, so he created a thankless protagonist like Cheng Xin. It gives the impression that she is constantly hibernating, first making a wrong decision, causing all mankind to suffer, then hibernating, waking up again, continuing to make a wrong decision, making the human condition worse again, continuing to hibernate. And so on until the end.
So at the end, although she is only in her 30s, 17.8 million years have passed. Among them, the first four centuries are focused on by Da Liu.
About Cheng Xin and the kind of people she represents
Cheng Xin attracts hatred on this point. She was supposed to be the representative of a group of people, but she put all the stories and decisions that should belong to a group of people on this person, and as a result, she seemed stupid and virgin, and became the object of readers' concentrated fire.
If you look at it according to the will of the group, in fact, Cheng Xin has not done anything wrong from beginning to end, but it is just the will of the people.
Da Liu really vividly reflected the inferior nature of people in the third part. The Immortal Reaper continues the theme of the first two books: in the face of survival, we need humanity (that is, morality and civilization, as human dignity) or animal nature (that is, the instinct of survival).
Based on this theme, Da Liu carried out ** through a virgin-like protagonist Cheng Xin.
Cheng Xin is a rather contradictory character, at the beginning, she was changing from human nature to animal nature, so she suggested Yun Tianming's brain and personally persuaded Yun Tianming.
However, I don't know which pill I took wrong, I guess Vader deliberately tricked her and waited for her brain to send it before telling her that it was Yun Tianming who gave her the star, he may have wanted to cut off the human part of her heart more cleanly, but he didn't expect it to be self-defeating, but instead inspired her so-called humanity - she turned back into a virgin.
The most ridiculous thing is her vision of her own life after becoming a sword bearer. Just because I feel that the other candidates are not good things (dark and inhumane in my heart), I must run. But she is too virgin, and when she took the button from Luo Ji, the three-body man occupied the earth, and she couldn't press it anymore. "Scream, throw the button". This paragraph is really funny and ironic.
Just a few minutes before that, she was still thinking about how she was going to decorate the room here, how to be a bridge of friendly communication between the Trisolarans and the earthlings, and how to protect the two civilizations. It's ridiculous.
People have beaten your hometown idea, and you are still here in Macabaca
Then she made an excuse for herself, saying that she thought this button was just an ornament, and since Luo Ji wouldn't use it when she took it, she definitely wouldn't use it either. I hope that the two civilizations will be one family, and after many years, this button will be silently abandoned.
Look, all the kids in this kindergarten have to be more sober than you, right? Drunk fake wine, drunk like this??
I'm sorry, but the three-body problem is a threat to survival! Do you remember that people's hometowns are not guaranteed? People have a high degree of civilization and a higher level of force than you, so why just ask you to stay in this good place and just establish diplomatic relations??? As far as Cheng Xin's brain is concerned, it is definitely not something that ordinary people can come up with, so she can only be the representative of the public, the "rabble".
In this kind of person, the most typical example I can think of is the Swedish environmental girl. Let's look at people is a joke, but how serious people are, people angrily scolded Chinese for not protecting the environment with chopsticks, and earning all "plant tears", which is *** a crime against the forest. Putin had only one sentence for her, asking her to explain to the developing countries why people deserve to live in poverty instead of living as well as she did in Sweden.
He is sanctimonious in his words, but he is timid in his actions. That's because it didn't hurt me. So anyone will be able to empty their mouths. It really hurt him, and he realized that he was responsible for it, so Bao Zhun was so frightened that he screamed and ran away.
In essence, Cheng Xin is also such a person, who is greater than anyone else on the surface, and selfish than anyone else on the inside.
About women
What disgusts me the most is that every time Cheng Xin suddenly remembers that she is a woman. Really, there have been countless times when she didn't know what was going on, and suddenly her identity changed in her mind, and she was no longer a "person", but a "woman". Then her mind was not clear, she began to become sensual and soft, helpless, and began to think about how to rely on others. I really took it.
Black women can't do the same! Women also have ruthless characters! What's going on, a woman is a brick that needs to be moved. Moving in there becomes a stupid excuse for her to make that set of bad decisions - what the hell did a woman offend you?
In fact, in the part of Death Immortality, because of Cheng Xin's female identity, the word woman began to be linked to human nature, intentionally or unintentionally. Their intentions are all beautiful and supple, beautiful and fragile, at least most of the time.
So whenever Cheng Xin makes a bad decision, she begins to "see her boundless weakness, she is nothing, just a woman". Seriously, I saw that I was numb at the end.
Da Liu said that the role of Cheng Xin was originally conceived as a man, but later felt that it was inappropriate and changed it to a woman. Really, it's better not to change, that's fine. I can still scold better, or you can split her role to a group of people, and I don't respond to her so much.
About bestiality and human nature
In Da Liu's works, what has been implying is that no matter how far human civilization develops, when faced with existential threats, the primitive bestiality that is stimulated is what can really save life.
Unlike other science fiction works, he reminds us that we should not start to commit the crime of "arrogance" because of the high development of society and the rapid progress of civilization, not seeing ourselves clearly, underestimating the existence of other civilizations, and overestimating ourselves. Human nature may be a miracle worth proclaiming and even defending at any cost, but animal nature is not shameful, and there is no shame in trying to survive itself, nor should it be the target of attack.
It presents the high-spirited, tenacious and vigorous will to live in the face of the magnificent and cruel time and environment. It reminds me of the people and animals in Jack London's books who fight for themselves, every time. Primal vitality, or the pursuit of life, is overwhelming.
About the universe
Some people say that the universe written by Da Liu is cruel and terrifying. I don't think so, Da Liu is not an absolutely rational person without a trace of warmth.
In his writing, although he said that death is immortal, he secretly retains the hope of life. The universe was extinguished, but after the restart, after dialing back to 0, he gave the lives in his pen a new path, that is, to restart.
And in this way, he allowed his characters to bring human civilization to the past and continue it. This in itself reflects his own attitude towards civilization.
And the truth is that in all popular science documentaries or articles, the future of the universe is not clear. Whether it is the heat death theory or the universe, there is no doubt that they all point to an end, that is, the universe will die.
Entropy increase is a fixed tendency, and everything will eventually lead to chaos. Even in the short term, all the efforts we do are to reduce entropy. Despite this despair, science fiction writers never give up their hopes. In Death's Eternal, we look forward to the restart of the universe, and the same is true in Asimov's "The Last Question".
Fortunately, according to the current human lifespan, no one will live to that day. But there are always curious human beings who look away from what is in front of them, look up at the stars in the sky, and then fantasize about that moment. This act alone can temporarily save our souls from mundane things, leaving us a moment to think about life.
Finally, I would like to thank Da Liu for taking me to see so many extraordinary and wonderful ideas: small pieces of paper (dimensionality reduction strike), singers, curvature spaceships, dead lines, small universes, safety statements, neuronal computers, black domain ......It was a real eye-opener.
