This time, the Vietnamese army first carried out artillery bombardment on the No. 3 position of the 7th Company of our 181st Regiment.
Five minutes later, 20 meters in front of the No. 4 post of the 012 position of the 2nd Company, about a squad of Vietnamese troops was found approaching in front of our position. The 2nd Company immediately blocked the attack.
When the Vietnamese saw that the operation was exposed, they changed to a strong attack, and immediately put a platoon following behind into battle. They divided their forces into two assault forces, the southeast and the southwest, and launched a fierce attack on our 012 position.
At the same time, the artillery fire of the Vietnamese army turned to our nameless position No. 3, but the direction of the -17 position was calm.
According to the analysis of the enemy situation, the command of the 181st Regiment judged that there should be two attempts of the Vietnamese army: one was to grab a handful of the 012 position and leave, and the other was to attack the east and the west. First feint in front of my 012 position to attract the attention of our troops. Then, sneak attack my 17 position with the main force. Because, judging by the strength of the Vietnamese army attacking 012, it is obviously insufficient. Therefore, the command judged that this was not the real direction of the opponent's main attack, and the battle that took place in front of the 012 position must have been a feint of the Vietnamese army.
Therefore, after firming up his judgment, the commander of the Zhao National Regiment immediately ordered the 2nd Company to respond calmly and resolutely repel the enemy's attack. He also asked all observation posts to pay close attention to our 17th position, which was too calm, and ordered the 7th Company guarding the 17th position to be vigilant and prepare for battle. At the same time, the battalion reserves were ordered to be ready for reinforcements.
After fierce fighting, position 012 repelled the first attack of the Vietnamese army. But the Vietnamese army did not end there, but launched a second attack without interruption.
During the hour or so of fierce fighting between the two sides, nearly 200 rounds were fired on our No. 3 position alone. Subsequently, the cable communication between the 7th Company and the No. 17 position and the battalion command post was abruptly interrupted, and the Vietnamese troops simultaneously blocked the access to support the 7th Company with artillery fire. Immediately, the Vietnamese army attacked the rear of the 14th flank and the left side of the No. 3 position with two squads.
At this point, position -17 remained calm and not a single shell fell. Regarding the abnormal behavior of the Vietnamese army, the head of the Zhao National Regiment attached great importance to it. He hurriedly ordered the 3rd Battalion to immediately inquire about the situation with the 7th Company and the 17th position.
Soon, the observation post on Position 17 reported: "There is an unusual movement in front of the formation. ”
After further ascertaining the Vietnamese army's intentions, the battalion command post immediately requested artillery support from higher authorities and ordered the entire battalion's mortars to cover the front of position No. 17. However, after a round of artillery fire, nothing unusual was found.
Could it be a misjudgment? Head Zhao muttered to himself. After a moment, he firmly said: "There will be absolutely no mistake, and the artillery fire is ordered to continue to cover the front of the -17 position." ”
The Vietnamese troops lurking in the front line are indeed admirable, they were hit by our army's fierce artillery fire, and those wounded did not say a word, preferring to die rather than expose their targets.
In fact, such an example of war was set in 1984 in "712 Songmaoling Battle".
At that time, the Vietnamese attack force was lurking within 500 meters of our formation, and our army carried out several targeted artillery shelling of the area, but after each shelling, the front line reported: "No enemy situation has been found." ”
Later, the command was still not at ease, and let the flares be fired to observe, but the result was that no enemy situation was found. So, everyone thought it was a false alarm, so they relaxed their vigilance, and went to rest when it was time to rest.
As a matter of fact, many rounds of light and heavy firepower strikes by our army at that time accurately hit the enemy's concealed battle formation, killing two battalion commanders of the Vietnamese army on the spot, and suffering heavy casualties. What is admirable is that in order not to expose the target, the Vietnamese army insisted on radio silence, and none of the light and serious wounded groaned, and the seriously wounded did not move to death, and the discipline and quality were indeed admirable.
Later, the Vietnamese troops held out until the early hours of the morning, suddenly launched an attack and successfully captured the positions of our troops.
Therefore, the head of the Zhao National Regiment combined with the previous battle examples, and strengthened his judgment, There is definitely a problem in front of the No. 17 position.
So, while Regiment Commander Zhao once again ordered the artillery fire to be covered, the light and heavy firepower on the position was **, I don't believe that the Vietnamese can still withstand such a blow?
In this way, under the strong firepower of our army again, the Vietnamese troops lurking in front of the formation suffered heavy casualties for a while, and had to be forced to launch a strong attack.
With the strength of 1 reinforced platoon, they launched an attack on Heights 17 in 4 directions, and at this time the 012 direction had basically calmed down.
After the main attack was launched, the Vietnamese army, which had been carefully planned in advance, quickly launched a siege on our 17th position. At the same time, they used two squads of troops to advance from the 395 heights and carry out a flank attack in the direction of our 17th, and the situation was very critical. After learning of the situation, the division headquarters immediately ordered the division's 122 howitzer group to carry out suppressive artillery bombardment on the enemy's artillery positions near "Bantou" and shell the enemy's 395 heights with 160 artillery to suppress and block the enemy's follow-up echelon.
In this way, under the suppression of our powerful artillery fire, the attacking troops of the Vietnamese army still fought to the death and did not retreat, and gave full play to their special skills in night fighting and jungle warfare, pressing forward step by step.
My position on the 17th was full of danger for a while. If the Vietnamese army is allowed to break through a little, there is a possibility of losing its position. Because, the Vietnamese army attacked quickly. Under the urgency of the situation, except for the company commander Zhang Zhengneng and the deputy company commander of the 7th Company, they all rushed to the position to participate in the battle.
At this time, the instructor who remained at the company's command post hurriedly asked everyone to be in the position and never let the Vietnamese troops cross our position, and the 7th Company would resolutely hold the position even if it was the last man.
And so it was until the arrival of my reinforcement detachment.
Therefore, in the case of a large increase in troops and firepower, Zhang Zhengneng Company Commander immediately adjusted his strength and prepared to give the Vietnamese army a powerful counterattack. He ordered: "Everyone hide, wait for the Vietnamese army to get close to a distance of 30 meters before launching a surprise attack, and at the same time blow the trumpet of counterattack, but don't fucking let me charge, that is to scare the enemy, let me honestly guard my position." ”
Everyone laughed when they heard Company Commander Zhang's order, and their mood suddenly felt much more relaxed.
The Vietnamese army also adjusted, and immediately launched another ** attack. Rushed to 50 meters without resistance, 40 meters still did not move, and when entering 30 meters. Several flares suddenly rose above the position. Suddenly, the entire attacking force of the Vietnamese army was exposed to the eyes of the Seventh Company at once.
At this time, the comrades in front of the battle were staring at the front without hesitation. Suddenly, an overwhelming rain of bullets shot at the enemy group, and then the grenades smashed down like hailstones, and the Vietnamese troops immediately suffered heavy casualties. Then the trumpet of our army sounded on the position of the counterattack, and the remaining Vietnamese troops were taken aback, thinking that our army was really going to launch a counterattack, and quickly turned around and began to run back.
In this way, with the strong support of the superior artillery, the 7th Company repelled many attacks of the Vietnamese army in a row and firmly held the position. But the defeated Vietnamese troops did not immediately withdraw to their positions, but waited for a long time, and then secretly came back and pulled back their dead and wounded companions.
Our army did not dare to clean the battlefield after the victory. Because, at night, the enemy situation is unclear and the line of sight is not clear, and it is too dangerous to go out rashly. Therefore, the commander abandoned this risky move, but ordered everyone to hurry up to repair the fortifications, repair the communication lines, replenish personnel and ammunition, and transport the remains of the wounded and sacrificed comrades down as soon as possible.
A fierce offensive and defensive battle came to an end, but the battle did not stop there.
After a few days of calm, the Vietnamese army, unwilling to be defeated, launched a sneak attack again.
One day at about 7 p.m., a group of Vietnamese troops who had infiltrated the front of our regiment at some point suddenly destroyed the wired communication line between the 3rd Battalion and the No. 1 position.
When our side discovered that there was a sudden abnormality in the communication lines between the various positions, we immediately realized that this was absolutely not an accidental phenomenon, and that it must have been deliberately sabotaged by the enemy, otherwise there would not have been a malfunction at the same time. So, he hurriedly activated emergency measures and got in touch with his superiors. The battalion command post immediately concluded that the Vietnamese army was coming to attack again, so it promptly issued an order to the companies to prepare for battle. Suddenly, all positions were ready to strike at the invading enemy.
Soon, my forward observation post discovered the enemy situation and reported it in time; "The enemy's troops of about two squads moved along the unnamed high ground on the north side of our No. 43 position towards the No. 43 position, and at the same time found that in front of the No. 42 position, the enemy's troops of about one platoon were approaching our position in three directions. ”
Then, in front of our No. 41 position, we also discovered the strength of about one squad of the Vietnamese army, and approached our No. 41 position, and the platoon commander Ren Changjun immediately ordered the whole platoon to prepare for battle.
Liu Kangchang, Cai Dengfu, and Dong Xiang's group on the position were the first to discover the approaching Vietnamese army. So, without waiting for an order, they took the lead in firing at the enemy. Then, the whole platoon joined the battle with light and heavy firepower. Suddenly, the Vietnamese army fell to the ground and could not raise their heads. Even 60 mortars immediately joined the battle, supporting the infantry in blocking the enemy.
As soon as the Vietnamese saw that the attack was blocked, they immediately called in artillery fire for support, and used heavy firearms, rocket launchers, and mortars to carry out a fierce attack on the machine-gun fortifications that we had exposed.
The platoon commander was the commander of the army and immediately ordered the light and heavy machine guns and mortars to move their positions immediately. Because the machine gun position in peacetime is not in one place, several fortifications are preset in case of emergency, and after each attack of the Vietnamese army is repulsed, a firing point will be quickly changed, leaving an empty machine gun fortification for the Vietnamese army to bomb, which is also easy to cause misjudgment by the Vietnamese army. Because, he will choose the place where the firepower is weaker as the breakthrough point.
After waiting for the artillery fire to arrive in their rear, the Vietnamese troops immediately launched an attack on our position with the strength of two platoons and under the cover of artillery fire. And taking advantage of the fact that the heavy fire on our positions was briefly suppressed, the passage between our 40 and 41 was quickly cut off. At the same time, 3 groups of troops were organized to launch an attack on position No. 40 along the passage.
At this point, almost all the positions of the 9th Company were attacked by the Vietnamese troops to varying degrees, and for a time, the guns and artillery rang out in front of the defensive positions of our regiment, and the battle became more and more intense.
At this time, the battalion commander Di Guoping anxiously waited for the reports from the various positions, and kept adjusting the command. But he could only hear the fierce gunfire and could not see the real battle scene. With a strong temperament, he tried to jump into the position several times to command, but was stopped by the instructors and guards. He could only be in the battalion command post, keeping an eye on the changes outside with a telescope, and adjusting the command in time according to the report.
At this time, Regiment Commander Peng Yong and Chief of Staff Wang Zhenguo, who were in the regimental command post, were also anxiously waiting for a report on the battle situation. In front of the sand table, they kept an eye on the changes in the battle situation reported at any time, and thought about countermeasures.
The sand table clearly presents the situation of the enemy and the enemy on the entire battlefield, and clearly marks the position, troop distribution, firepower distribution and the real-time situation of each of our positions. Any changes on the battlefield will be marked on the sand table in a timely manner according to the reports from the front. Therefore, the sand table schematic diagram is a real picture of the battlefield in a scaled miniature.
The battle has been going on for more than an hour, and the Vietnamese army's attack on our position is still going on, and they are still suppressing the supporting fire on our position with artillery fire.
It seems that the Vietnamese army's intentions are not small. The battalion command post immediately ordered all positions to take the initiative to support and strike at the invading enemy while actively defending.
Zhang Zhongliang, a soldier of the Ninth Company, placed two boxes of grenades with unscrewed caps on his side. He took advantage of his large arm strength to throw grenades at the enemy group, which caused the Vietnamese army to scream. Squad leader Wang Changxing also ran over and threw it with him, and the two boxes of grenades soon flew towards the enemy group like small cannonballs.
The beaten Vietnamese troops immediately retaliated with mortars, and when Wang Changxing heard the shrill whistling of shells, he pulled Zhang Zhongliang under him, and the shells exploded around them. **Later, Wang Changxing shook the soil that fell on his body, pulled Zhang Zhongliang, and said, "Hurry up and change places." ”
So, the two of them rolled on the spot and quickly withdrew from this firing point. As soon as they moved away, the Vietnamese artillery shells smashed on the sentry post just now. Zhang Zhongliang looked at the place where he had just withdrawn and was blown up, and suddenly gasped, and looked back at the squad leader Wang Changxing gratefully. Wang Changxing patted Zhang Zhongliang knowingly, and the two immediately entered the battle again.
At this time, fellow comrade-in-arms Luan Zhiping even used his dexterous physical fitness to change the firing position after firing a magazine, sometimes shooting a gun and sometimes throwing a bomb, like a monkey, so that the Vietnamese army could not find his position. Qiao Xinmin's rockets are also, the enemy's **firepower is strong, and his rockets fly to**.
During the battle, the veterans had the experience of veterans, the recruits had the fighting style of recruits, and the comrades-in-arms all looked at death as if they were at home, fought bravely, and fought so that the Vietnamese army lost its temper.
Finally, with the strong fire support of our 43rd and other surrounding positions, the 60 mortars and 82 mortars of the regiment suppressed the enemy near the passage and the forward attack, suppressed the enemy artillery fire with 160 guns, and supported the infantry in the battle. and under the stubborn resistance of the Ninth Company, after more than 3 hours of fierce fighting, the Vietnamese army ended in a crushing defeat.
In this battle, the 3rd Battalion resisted a total of 13 artillery bombardments by the Vietnamese army, smashed 7 enemy attacks, and won the final battle at a very small cost of slightly wounding 3 people.
But the commanders understood that victory only represented the past, and they did not dare to be careless at all, the distance between the two armies was so close, and the terrain was so complicated, and no one was a general who often won victories.
After the war, the front-line commanders, after careful observation and summary, all saw that the observation post was the key to the success of the defense. As a result, the work of adjusting and increasing the number of observation posts began at a rapid pace.
Sentinels on the battlefield are indeed a very important part of the defensive position. Especially on the front line of Laoshan, where the terrain is complicated, there are observation posts all over the battlefield, just like a pair of eyes on the battlefield. There will be many pairs of these eyes on each defensive segment. They are like a net, distributed on various points of the position, 24 hours a day to keep an eye on every moment of change on the battlefield, they are also the command command with the brightest eyes to understand the enemy's situation.
These outposts make it impossible for the attacker to break through the defender's depth at once without being detected. Because each position is not isolated, the position is set up like one trench holding back another. The numerous outposts act as a protective net for these positions, keeping an eye on the battlefield.
On the front of the east mountain of the Bali River, below the junction of our regiment and the 183rd regiment, there is a No. 29 position, which is a relatively forward position and a relatively weak defensive position. Because, its terrain is not conducive to defense, and can only be used as a warning position, that is, to play the role of an observation point and observation post. Because, this is the hardest hit area where the enemy often sneaks up and harasses them. In addition, due to the limited terrain of this position, too many troops cannot be deployed on the position, so once it is difficult to hold in the event of an attack, it will increase in vain**. Therefore, there is usually only one squad with a small number of people on guard.
Squad leader Yang Jun of the 4th squad of the 7th company led the whole squad to stick to the three sentry posts of the No. 29 position. Above the No. 29 position is the No. 30 position of our regiment, and above the side is the defense area of the brother units of the 183rd regiment. The front of the No. 29 position is less than 30 meters wide, at the foot of the mountain, and below it is a deep ditch in the dense forest. The three outposts on the position were completely exposed to the fire coverage of the surrounding Vietnamese formations.
One day, the Vietnamese army took advantage of the foggy weather and sneaked up in front of the outpost. Due to the low visibility, the sentries were somewhat paralyzed and did not detect the enemy's sneak attack in time.
At the critical moment, the squad leader Yang Jun happened to come over to check the sentry and wanted to see if the people on the sentry were sleeping. Because it is common for a sentry to be too sleepy to take a nap, it is necessary to carry out frequent inspections and supervision.
When Yang Jun walked into the sentry post, he found that the two soldiers on duty were asleep leaning against the fortification wall. Yang Jun, who has always been mild-mannered, knew that everyone was also very hard, so he didn't wake them up immediately, but picked up the observation mirror and looked out from the observation port. This look startled him at that time, and he found that the Vietnamese army had come to him, less than 10 meters away from the sentry post. He hurriedly shouted and said, "There are enemies!" ”
At the same time, just start the gun.
The two soldiers, who were awakened by the shouts and gunshots, hurriedly raised their submachine guns and fired a strafing shot. As soon as the Vietnamese army saw that the operation was exposed, they immediately launched a strong attack, and the dense rain of bullets caused mud to splash on the outposts. Then, a grenade thrown by the Vietnamese army exploded on the shelter of the sentry post, and the head of the soldier Mao Xinggui was instantly injured. As soon as Yang Jun saw that the sentry position could not be defended, he decisively ordered to withdraw to the main trench to defend. Just as they were withdrawing from their posts, Vietnamese grenades and small artillery slammed into the posts. The Vietnamese army's jungle combat capability is strong, and the attack speed is very fast, not giving them a chance to breathe at all.
The sound of gunfire was an order, and the whole squad immediately shrank its forces to the main trench to block the attack according to the plan. While Yang Jun organized his troops to hold on desperately, he immediately reported to his superiors, but before he could finish the report, the ** line was blown up.
At this time, the 30th position above and other surrounding positions, after hearing the fierce gunfire and ** from the 29th position, they couldn't get in touch and couldn't see what was going on below. The situation is unclear and we cannot provide support, but we cannot sit idly by.
At the critical moment, the commander of the position above judged according to the sound of gunfire and **, and felt that the Vietnamese army was about to break through our 29th position. Therefore, the order was given in desperation**. So, light and heavy fire rang out together.
At this time, the No. 29 position has indeed reached a very critical moment, and it is about to be unable to hold it. At this critical moment, the upper position violently supported the No. 29 position in a timely manner, and the attacking Vietnamese troops were immediately disorganized.
The Vietnamese army was also a good man, and as soon as they saw that the situation was not good, they immediately withdrew from the battle. Because, they were originally a sneak attack, and now that their actions have been exposed, they can't get any light, so they hurriedly dragged their dead and wounded companions back.
In fact, to put it bluntly, this war is a political battle. Therefore, whenever possible, both sides will do their best to avoid captures and corpses. Therefore, in battle, there is often a phenomenon of desperately grabbing corpses regardless of **.
However, under the attack of the strong fire from the upper position, the 4th squad on the 29th position began to be overwhelmed. Because, after being attacked by the upper and lower firepower, the 4th squad was suddenly beaten and couldn't lift his head, so he had to hide.
When the Vietnamese army fled in a hurry, they could not pursue it at all. Because, they were suppressed by the fire of the positions above, and they could not move. In addition, 4 of the 6 people in the class have been injured at this time.
Actually, it's good that Class 4 can have such a result. Because, the position of position No. 29 is often to fight the enemy and prevent accidental injury of one's own people.
After the battle, the wounded were picked up by the military industry in time, and the lost soldiers were replenished in time. After the personnel arrived, Yang Jun immediately organized everyone to start repairing the destroyed fortifications.
Yang Jun knew that the usual defense of the No. 29 position basically relied on mines. So, the ammunition they often ask for is also mines. However, when the mines were delivered, everyone did not dare to go out and bury them, so they could only throw a few at the front of the battle and some worried positions every night. Everyone was worried that the Vietnamese army had cleared the mines and touched them at night. Therefore, every night throw mines to strengthen the courage.
In fact, they threw mines like this to confuse the enemy. Because, the mines thrown out are all on the surface and can be easily removed. But over time, some of them will be washed into the mud by the rain or hidden in the grass. In this way, the Vietnamese army did not dare to easily get down even if they picked up the surface mines, who knows if there are any mines below. Therefore, they still have to clear the mines bit by bit as required, so that they can also achieve the goal of delaying the other side.
In short, it is very difficult to fight in this terrain and environment, whether on the defensive side or on the offensive side.
In particular, the defensive fortifications on the positions were often repaired and repaired by artillery fire, and people could only resign themselves to their fate.
(To be continued).
