1. What is styrofoam?

The full name of the styrofoam we often say is a one-component polyurethane foam caulk. It is a special polyurethane product that fills polyurethane prepolymer, foaming agent, catalyst and other components in pressure-resistant aerosol cans. When the material is ejected from the aerosol can, the foam-like polyurethane material expands rapidly and solidifies with the air or moisture in the substrate it comes into contact with to form a foam.

The cured foam has a variety of effects such as caulking, bonding, sealing, heat insulation, sound absorption, etc., and is an environmentally friendly, energy-saving, and easy-to-use building material.

2. Can styrofoam be used for roof waterproofing?

The answer is: no!

Foam adhesive is suitable for sealing and plugging, filling in the gaps, fixing and bonding, thermal insulation and sound insulation, especially suitable for sealing and plugging leaks and waterproofing between plastic steel or aluminum alloy doors and windows and walls. However, foam glue also has defects, due to its general viscosity, it will fall off after a long time of use, which is also the reason why foam glue is not widely used in home decoration waterproofing.

If the foaming agent is used for roof waterproofing, it can only be used for emergency caulking to achieve a temporary water barrier. The filling, water resistance and weather resistance of foam glue are good, but it is easy to age, if it is used in the roof to plug the leakage, it will soon fall off and fail after rainwater and feng shui sun, and it cannot play a waterproof effect. Therefore, it is strongly not recommended to use foaming agent for roof leakage treatment, and it is only suitable for plugging and sealing wall gaps, door and window gaps.

3. Roof leakage treatment methods.

1. If there is a leakage on the roof, we must first find the leakage point, usually from the high to the low place, check whether there are cracks in the roof, whether the waterproof layer is aged, whether the waterproof effect is still available, and whether there are bubbles in the waterproof membrane. If a large number of air bubbles are found inside the waterproofing membrane, then it is an indication that the waterproofing layer of the roof has entered the water.

2. When the roof leakage area is relatively large or there are many leakage points, we first check whether there are cracks on the roof, and after dealing with the cracks, lay the corresponding waterproof membrane on the roof, or paint waterproof coating.

3. If the house has not been waterproofed before, then it is necessary to remove 3cm from the leaky part of the roof when repairing, then clean it and then water it with asphalt. If the house has a waterproof layer, then the damaged waterproof layer should be removed and redone, and the junction with the original waterproof layer should be reinforced, and the overlap should be tight.
